No ITK, but I reckon if we manage to get the striker Wilder wants then Caolan Lavery will be off to AFC Wimbledon. It’s been clear for a while that Wilder had no plans for Lavery to be in the squad. Meanwhile we know that Wilder and AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley have a good relationship (Long loan last year, Hanson loan this year) and Ardley has referred a few times to being after a striker but he was waiting for the selling club to sign someone first. I might be putting two and two together and making five, but I reckon that selling club could be us with Lavery.

It won’t be Wimbledon.

Ardley is a bit of a hoof merchant.

Lavery wouldn’t do so well in this sort of team.

However this pans out, GLTTL.

A L1 hoof merchant managing lowly Wimbledon and even he won't start Hanson.

How funny is that?

Ardley isn't a hoof merchant. I've got a few mates who have season tickets and I watch them every now and again. Ardley has his critics but he definitely tries to play "good" football. This obviously doesn't preclude having a striker who has a bit of a presence, like big Jimmy Hanson or Tom Elliot (who's now at Wimbledon). They're missing a quicker striker.

Lavery is reasonably quick tbf, but he runs a bit like a duck. That's what I've noticed when I've seen him. He sort of puts his feet down very flat-footed and angled outwards. I don't know why this is, but it's true!

I do like the kid actually - I think he always gives 100% and he's bloody brave as well. Jayzus, he was right in front of me when he cracked his cheekbone in that challenge that put him out for weeks. There was no holding back there - he went in 100% and the blow was sickening - you could hear it half way up the South Stand. THUCK! the sound of a cheekbone breaking. Urrgh! horrible!

He's another one of those players that we've signed that I think, I'd really love the kid to do well. (I thought the same about Nathan Thomas, because he came across as such a lovely humble human being. I thought the same about Ched because I wanted the guy to get his life back).

It doesn't always work out for that way of course and I don't think it's going to work out that way for Caolan unfortunately. In truth I think he's not quite good enough at this level. Even at L1 level I thought he was a bit limited. He's a willing runner, he'll get into some good positions, but it's his decision-making more than anything that left me thinking he's not quite up to it. Making the wrong pass or taking the wrong option when on the ball and it all coming to nothing.

I hope the kid gets a good move anyhow. Seems like another decent lad - and another instance of a decent player getting left behind by a club that is moving faster than his own development.

Hope he gets a move, my brother has known him a long time and speaks highly of him, not sure he's up to the standard currently required but did a job a helped us along

Thoughtful piece CB, made me think long and hard. Do ducks actually run?

Hanson isn't on loan from us, but yes we did do them a favour by cancelling his contract to allow them to sign him within their budget

His game time here is going to be zero, it is good to move him on and allow someone else to challenge for the spot.

Like I have said for a while now its about slow steady improvement.

Mcgoldrick > Donaldson
Woodburn > Wilson
Hanson & Lavery > ?
Ched is out for fitness

The squad is getting tighter and the quality is moving upwards.

I'm sure I've seen them run. Yes. Well...possibly. I mean...I'm not really sure. Thing is, when they start to build up any speed they seem to take off. So it may just be a fast walk or jog?

Thanks for those pointing out big Jim isn't on loan. My mistake. Fixed original post.

FWIW, I think my calculator was indeed wrong on this one! Sounds like Ardley was/in for another player in a similar situation. Prompted some discussion anyway!

Joined Bury on loan

As expected...

LOAN DEAL FOR LAVERY

Another confirmed deal as Bury announce the signing of Sheffield United forward Caolan Lavery on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Was told yesterday he was off across to pennines, didn't quite think he'd end up in League 2...

His level

His level

You would think lower end L1 would be interested with his trickery and running, but hopefully it does him some good. Always put a shift in, just not on our level.

Think this is a good move. It's lower than his level maybe but I said a while back that he needs to go and tear a league a new one and get that confidence. He's never scored enough goals in his senior career, this is his chance to get the hang of it.

If he gets 30 goals this season in league 2 and gets used to putting it in the net then it'll make his career, though likely not with us.

His wages were apparently an issue with moving on.

A club in L1 were allegedly interested too.
