The league table says yes, if we play like last night we're well in the mix.

COME ON YOU RED AND WHITE WIZAAAAAAAAAAAAARDS!

No. Much as we kept at it last night and you couldn't fault the effort of most of them, if Doncaster and Cardiff turn up we'll lose both.
The Cardiff win last night made a big difference though if anyone gets the yips in the top 6 I'm not totally convinced about Swansea.
But we'd still need to win at least 6 of the last 9 and that's not going to happen.

Of course we bloody can. Will we and do we deserve it are questions for another day.

Having been robbed on so many occasions it would be justice if we did make it for once.

I am sure someone will be along in a short while to tell you not to build your hopes up though. We aren't allowed to revel in victory these days. You might even want to switch P & G on this evening to listen to some Blades not moaning. Then again......

The Blades have an outside chance but nothing more. We are now, IMO probably the only side that can gatecrash the current top 6. I think Coventry, Blackpool and Middlesbrough saw their seasons end last night and it has left us with the only semi-realistic chance of getting in there. The late winner for Cardiff was a blow and we would be looking a lot healthier this morning without it but we don’t tend to get those breaks.

I’ve said repeatedly that you need 70 points minimum to get into the playoffs. The league historically suggests that. I genuinely think (unless Cardiff go into administration) that we will need that many points to finish 6th this year as Leicester and Swansea have pulled away and Cardiff are on 55 points. They only need 15 from the remaining 27 to qualify on that basis. So unless admin occurs or they just completely collapse, then United will have to win the vast majority of their remaining games.

What the Blades have to target is 6 wins (or equivalent) from the last 9. 6 wins puts us on the magic 70 points and if we don’t get into the playoffs with that then you just have to shrug your shoulders and accept that it wasn’t to be. If they play like they did last night for the rest of the season then they will get the required number of points no doubt. Sadly I don’t think our form/current squad is strong enough to push on from last night and I think we will fall a bit short.

I’m not putting it past United but if I were a betting man my money would be on the top 6 finishing as it is. If United give me last night’s performance for the rest of the season then I will accept whatever happens and applaud them for effort at the end of the season..............

But if they have serious playoff ambitions and still feel they can do it, they have to start with a win at Donny on Saturday. Anything less will kill off any slim hopes. It’s up to them and how badly they want it!

like someone else pointed out .. we'll probably scrape into the playoffs due to a last minute goal somewhere else, win the playoffs and get promoted with wembley half empty.. the footballing gods owe us

"if we play like last night we're well in the mix" If we play like we did last night a better team will beat us. I thought they were awful and there goal keeper was our best player.

I have seen nothing to suggest that we will pick up any wins away from home between now and the end of the season.

Winning away from home requires a level of organisation and cohesion which is beyond Blackwell. Such a shame because Henderson, Camara, Cresswell and a fit Ward provide really good options.

Not sure my liver could survive another trip to Wembley.

Not sure my heart could do with being broken again either.

We can do it, but I'm still pretty sure we won't. 1 good result doesn't change my mind, we're still not good/consistent enough to get a play-off spot. I think the next 3 away games will see to that. If we get 1 point out of them we'd have done well in my eyes.

I wouldn't mind if we didn't make it to be honest, the play-offs for us always delay the inevitable dissappointment.

I think Daz's comments are pretty fair and accurate. It's still possible but it's far more unlikely to happen than some people suggest and we will have to have a complete turnaround in away form to even keep the season alive. I'm not saying we should give up, we should try to win every game of course! But its quite clear we have left ourselves far too much to do.

Strictly speaking I look at our side as well as the way we play and I can't imagine we would have been anywhere near the playoffs when the Championship was a good division.

The fact is everything below Newcastle and WBA is utter dross. The whole division is a wish-wash of very average teams and players that aren't good enough for the league above. It's no wonder though with the way the PL has drained every decent player from it in the last ten years. They're even pinching the young ones now before they've kicked a professional ball!

I would be delighted if United can play like they did last night for the rest of the season and win at least half of their games. Whatever happens after that is a bonus if we can get it. I am disappointed with the way this season has panned out but what's gone is gone and all we can do is hope they keep us interested for the remaining 9 games!

Not a chance of doing it, Cardiff have a game in hand on us so could be 6 points off them, there goal difference would make it 7 really. If we had won a few of the ones we should of won ie Peterborough away we would be right up there, just shows how rubbish this league was this season and what a massive chance we have missed out on.

As for being robbed, we weren't robbed the last two play off finals.

What Linz said.

I think the only bright bits left this season are the odd chance to properly tonk someone, maybe a few of the youngsters getting a game or two, and the prospect of thrashing Wednesday like they've never been thrashed before. 5-0 to shut the cunts up about fucking Boxing Day will do me fine thank you.

Not sure it depends if we can get consistency levels up, and as Mijalco said it depends on how we organise ourselves.

I'll still hope we can though. Up the Blades!!

There has actually been only one occasion in the last 12 seasons where the play-offs could be achieved with less than 73 points. Unfortunately for us that was the Robson season.

It may be that 73 points will be more than enough this year, but even if Cardiff slip up a bit we still need to watch for the likes of Reading, who if they keep up their recent form will end up with 75 points

Is it just me or do Cardiff seem to get a pen every other game. They must be well into double figures for the season.

Apparently Donny fancy their chances of the play-offs so they will be well up for it on Satdi

We need to keep at least 7th spot just in case Cardiff do lose 10 points before the end of the season.
More realisticaly lets hope the pigs go down, West ham go down, Leeds fail in the playoffs.
