Can anyone confirm this Chris Wilder memory?

When Wilder became our manager I tried to remember what i could of him from his time as a player and for some reason a memory kept coming back to me. Basically that he had "fallen over his dog whilst taking it for a walk" (even though i was only a lad reading this on my Sheffield Stir paper round i assumed it was a euphemism) resulting in him being out for a few weeks. I recall that Bassett had a few choice words about it.

Can anyone else remember this or did i dream it?

I think he played with a plaster cast rather than missed a few weeks (and Luton is the game I seem to remember). Certainly the public statement was "playing with his dog".

My memory is when we won the game against Forest and his celebration at Jocks winning goal.

Thanks Grecian - been pondering for six months :D

Allegedly he fell leap-frogging a player whilst training Bradway!

Yeah think he broke his wrist didn't he?

Every story that comes out makes you think more of the man! So he was a professional footballer, who managed a Sunday league team. How many pro footballers have time for anybody else unless there's some sort of media watching them?

I also seem to remember and bare in mind that this a loooong time ago that he took training a couple of times for the Deepcar junior school football team while I was in it.

Memory is really hazy though.

A decent footballing full back is what I remember of him.

Also not adverse to being a bit of a dirty get which defenders had to be (and could get away with) in those days.

Deane scored our winner. Wilder's celebration was just after Jock's 2nd to make it 2-2
