Kalvin Philips

At the time, and for the rest of the day, I was fuming about the red for Phillips.

Having now seen it back, multiple times, it does look like he had an extra little "lunge" at the end of the follow through. It was unnecessary, and stupid, and it probably cost us the best chance we'll ever get to give them a proper spanking. 2 up after 20 mins, cruising, outclassing them in every department, then he does that.

That said, Ingelsson is a diving, cheating twat. Sprinted back on the pitch a minute later, despite going down like he's been shot. Cheating, plain and simple.

I can see what you mean about the extra movement, but the only angle I’ve seen of that is a slow motion. So I’m not sure if it’s just how his leg has moved after the Wednesday player came into contact with Phillips?

I’d like to see it at full speed to see if the extra movement is just a case of slow motion making it look like there is something there that isn’t

The reason it ‘looks’ bad is because of the parts of the body that connect. Any other part of KP’s body and it’s deemed a foul on him. Their players leg made contact with KP after KP had played the ball. Because their player made contact with his studs it immediately looks - to stupid people - like KP has studded him. He didn’t. It wasn’t a tackle. KP played a pass/clearance and was then caught by their man.

If anyone needs any more advice on football-related matters just give me a shout. 👍🏼
Phillips only crime was kicking the damned ball…Go figure🤷🏼

Awful lot of "won the ball" and "where was he supposed to put his leg" comments in this thread as well

a) Winning the ball does not allow you to do whatever the fuck you want. If someone flies in two footed on Hamer on Wednesday, taps the ball first and breaks his leg in the follow through, you will be crying for a red, you can't have it the other way if Peck does the same to one of the Cov players
b) If you are going to try to challenge in such a way where you cannot do anything else but put your leg in a spot where you will be hitting an opponent in a (potentially) dangerous way, that is the definition of reckless. Either try to win the ball in a clean manner, or if you can't, don't make the challenge in the first place

Wilder agreeing with the red is probably strategic coz his reputation with refs needs improving.
It's not a tackle , it's not a foul , it's a pussy putting himself in the way of a clearance.
KP is not responsible for where the pussy chooses to put himself when he's clearly lost the race for the ball.
The ball which KP clears easily , before his unavoidable follow-through catches the pussy.
Who rolls around like an idiot , knowing that the ref might make a decision on the outcome , not the action.
And , having had his leg broken and dislocated at the knee , is happily racing around a minute later.
FFS , ref the action , not the play acted outcome.
It's perfectly possible for extremely serious injuries - I mean real injuries , not fake - to occur without foul play.
In my opinion Wilder is usually more diplomatic with his responses regarding referees and set decisions, and it is telling that the club aren’t trying to appeal the decision/red card either. If the club had grounds for an appeal it would have been in

Phillips knew he had done wrong

In my opinion if Wilder would have thought that wasn’t a red card he would have been more diplomatic and said something along the lines of he hasn’t had chance to review it yet. It is very telling that the club haven’t made an appeal on the decision/red card, to try and get the ban overturned. The fouls and misconduct Law (Law 12) is written in a very grey way on purpose, using excessive force within a challenge (2 players challenging for the ball) is deemed a red card. The fact of the decision was how Phillips caught him, regardless of the circumstances it is a football incident where it’s an unfortunate one by the letter of the law it’s a red card (the play acting is not needed). My counter argument to that would be the Ipswich keeper after O’Hare scored and how he left his foot in using excessive force for consistency that also should have been a red card too (for the GK) as we saw with the unfortunate circumstances with Bash and his career ending injury, things can happen though no fault of anyone.

Summed up perfectly

Just listened to that dick Andy Goldstein on talksport, saying on live radio that it was a disgusting challenge that was ‘late’ and ‘caught him on the foot’. He hasn’t watched it, has he?
He’s a complete cock end, that one. Makes my ears bleed

This, you see it all the time in the PL. Players go into 50:50 tackles very gingerly. It looks cowardly, it’s not, they know that its a one way ticket to a red if there is any contact with the opponents body. Not saying its right, just that it is where the rules have taken us to.

The problem you’ll have here is that there are people who’ll disagree, despite the rules backing up what you say.

It’s either:

  • “Game’s gone”
  • “Nowt wrong wi it, he got ball first”
  • “It were t’pigs fault”

Or the option is that they can’t see wrong in anything a Blades player does whilst playing for the Blades.

You’ll probably get called “stupid” or a “fanny” or something similar. But you’re right.

Just because the rules have evolved over time and some people aren’t seeing it, means that they can’t reasonably debate their point.

As it wasn’t a 50:50, I don’t see what relevance your point has. Phillips was easily first to the ball, the ball nearly got to the half way line even with it being blocked. This wasn’t some slight touch before clearing out a player.

Well if you won’t accept that he followed through, with more force than he needed to, then we’ll just agree to disagree. You saw it one way and I another - thats life

I haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere else, im sure it’s been pointed out, but it’s so obvious he doesn’t want to be here.

In all his interviews his tone is so uninspiring and literally EVERY interview mentions how he came here cos its ‘nice to be close to home’.

an uninspired and uninspiring signing in my opinion. As we are most likely to finish half way up, what was the point of spending all this money in CDM for 6 months? Bizarre

I wouldn't pay too much attention to what players say in interviews. We aren't paying them as raconteurs. Phillips just comes across as a bit shy and rather awkward.

I am also pretty sure McGoldrick said that ending the commute to Ipswich every day was a big part of him wanting to move on, and we gave him that chance. Aside from the money and the other trimmings, we often forget that these lads get as fed up in their jobs as the rest of us when the circumstances aren't right.

Whatever anyone thinks about Wilder, he doesn't have a record of bringing in people who don't want to be here.

Id rather players be honest rather than the same generic rubbish that gets recycled.

As you said he wouldn't have come if he didn't want to.

It was NOT two players challenging.
It was a race to the ball which was easily won by Philips , a clean clearance and an attempt to block that clearance by a pussy who chose to put himself into the arc of Philips leg-swing as he cleared the ball.
Then afterwards rolled around like a pussy , knowing there was a good chance the ref would ref the outcome and not Philips action.
