DCL would not have helped much on Saturday against Preston, apart from perhaps is aerial ability. Their defenders kept Clarke and Sharp fairly quiet, and those two are physically stronger than DCL.

Didn't Wilder say that despite Brayford not being in his plans he had been a model professional or words to that effect?

On top of the "bad influence" rumour we now have photo stills of him showing negative body language. Jesus.

He did. The "only plays for Nigel" bollocks was a myth perpetuated by some on here.

Okay. I’ve spoken to the real world, undiscovered by many on here.

We didn’t pay off Brayford for no return. Far from it. He will have been paid a significantly lesser sum than his full contract salary because he was going to get a wage at Burton.

Whiteman is wholly unproven at Championship level.

Reed is a complete waste of time and will be leaving as soon as we can get rid.

The Wishing Star is fading fast.

The biggest loss on Brayford is the write-off of the balance of his transfer fee, about £0.5m. This is in addition to his payoff.

Whiteman will remain unproven until we give him a chance to prove himself. Similar to Brooks this year who was ready to be shipped off on loan until he "prove" himself elsewhere.

Agree with you on Reed.

So that's one out of three, you're improving.

The DCL transfer has never bothered me, we let a player go who wanted to move on and we reinvested the money in the squad which won promotion.

If we do the same this season with brooks it’s a no brainer. I’d happily take him being sold and go on to be world beater if it funds our promotion.

What will always fuck me off is selling the likes of Deane & Fjortoft, Walker & Naughton and even Jamie Murphy and hen pretty much saying goodbye to any chances of promotion and moving backwards because we took the easy money.

Hopefully the club has learnt from the past and the manager now has full control over deals, if he takes it he thinks it will help us achieve our goals thats the way it should be.

See what you're saying re: the DCL sale (even though, in hindsight, it's looking more & more like we had our pants pulled down). Fair to say that, sixth season in Division Three, with a(nother) new manager funds had to somehow be generated for a(nother) rebuild.

Things are different now though & your "if it funds our promotion" statement contains a very big IF in there. What if it doesn't?

Brooks is a bit of a bit of a test case IMO. At least with Harry we got to see him develop over a few seasons. But with DCL and now Brooks we might be entering a new era (or returning to the Walker/Naughton era) of seeing our very best prospects being sold off without ever really getting to see them play in the flesh - i.e the academy as pure "breeding ground"/cash cow.

Call me a traditionalist, but the bonds between supporters and young home-developed players still very much matter IMO. It'd be tragic if we sold Brooks without at the very least having the first team benefit of him for a full season. Self-defeating too, given that the raw excitement & unpredictability he brings is so expensive/hard to find.

I thought the money for DCL was decent for an unproven LG1 player who hadn’t really made an impression. Credit to Everton for seeing his potential and bringing him on.

The money we’d get for Brooks would be significantly more and it could help turn us into serious challengers, maybe not this season but would help us get a squad together for next year who would challenge for automatic promotion. Yes it’s a big IF but with Wilder in charge I trust him to make that call.

The sad thing is that it’s probably up to brooks and his agent and if he’s determined to move on he will.

If ever a player could play the Coutts role it's Reed.

We'd get, what, £6m/£7m/£8m for him now? Just don't see how it would be transformative. It wouldn't see us buying decent players (your Woodses, Swifts, etc) at this level.

Far rather us keep developing him & improving him, personally. And for us to keep sensibly developing, rather than looking for a quick fix for promotion (competing, as we are, with all sorts of sides with much greater capacity for their own quick fixes).

I reckon we’d be looking for 10m at least, with the money flying about these days anything less would be giving him away.

I’m with you Alf I’d love him to stay and build a team around our best assets. Trust wilder though if he thinks he can use the dosh to move us forward.

Deane and Fjortoft in those hazy days when Spackman was manager, loved it, similar to last season battering teams and scoring for fun

Very similar to last season sexy football playing 3-5-2 and scoring goals from all over the pitch.

Losing Dane was a massive blow too but the sale of those two just killed it for us and set us on a downward spiral until warnock came in.

FA cup semi too what a season.

Looks like this lad has found his feet ,followed his progress since he was in our academy ( I said in a thread about 3 years ago that he was a star in the making ) very disappointing when we sold him as the potential was there although for a time he did stumble a bit.
It's was said he wanted to go but him being a Blade ( kopite ) I find that hard to beleave as surely playing for us would have meant a lot to him.Wilder had him on loan at Northampton and talking to Wilder at the 25 year bash we had at the lane he said he hoped to keep him for the season ( we brought him back in January )as he was doing really well.
I accept we needed to get some money to strengthen the team but he's another jewel we have lost it was obviouse a few years ago ,he was going to be a very good player,I liken him in a way to Brooks as he just needed time to mature which he his at a rapid rate now.
Feel certain Brooks won't go cheaply ( Wilder has said he won't be sold in the window ) he like Calvert-Lewin
just needs time to mature and we have a possible star in our ranks.
When you look at the premiership players we have brought through ! It's just a shame we wernt in a position to keep them. The latest is Regan Slater keep your eyes on him he's going to be a good un,and we have a few more
who might come through. The academy has definitely paid off in recent years just hope it doasnt dry up now we have lost two important cogs from the organisation to Man Utd

You can't even get his name right, so your claims of predicting his bright future and disappointment at his sale seem rather dubious.

Exactly, it's well known that to be able to judge the attributes of a young player one needs at least English O level. In fact I believe Binnion had to do a very difficult spelling test before he was put in charge of our academy and Morgan was kicked out because he mis-spelt 'municipality'.

I heard Morgan used a small bag of bones and teeth that he kept around his neck to communicate,he would just scatter them on the table
and let others interpret thier meaning.

And any cheeky responses usually meant they would soon be losing a tooth/teeth .... or breaking a bone.

It's a bit fractious on here today boys and girls.

Whys that?

Brooks off
No spending in January
Team full of useless wankers
Prince selling up
McCabe back on board
Danny04s fault
£7m missing
Tip "too busy"
Rail strike
Team full of useless wankers but not Jake Wright.

Where do you think he gets them?
It had crossed my mind that he was a genuine Bone Collector but I didn't want to upset him with an allegation of theft. Whereas he was always ok with allegations of bodily contact - "it's a man's game" he said , when interviewed on MotD after getting his face rearranged by that Wigan thug , Andy McCullough.

Seems like he's already an established premier league player and is producing the goods to prove it. The following stats are straight off the BBC website:

  • Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been directly involved in 11 goals for Everton this season in all competitions (seven goals, four assists), a figure only Wayne Rooney can better (14).
GLTTL

He's got undoubted potential, but that's what I see him as right now. As for the stats, 3 goals in the league this season in 20 games I think on stats says he has a way to go yet - in my view. But he's young and generally speaking forwards at the age DCL is improve on goal stats as they go on but i still think he would have been better of staying with us, playing league One and now Championship football. But again that's my view, and you'll no doubt say he's a first tram player at Everton now so he must be good enough, but I think, and have read many comments from Everton fans this season on their forum, that DCL isn't yet good enough. They may be changing their view now Big Sam is there and winning games, but I'm not convinced that DCL is Premier League quality yet.

We'll see how it goes over the years, but this can still go either way for me. I recall Marcus Bent doing a very good job for Everton for a couple of years and he wasn't Premier League quality over the course of his career.
