Looks like this lad has found his feet ,followed his progress since he was in our academy ( I said in a thread about 3 years ago that he was a star in the making ) very disappointing when we sold him as the potential was there although for a time he did stumble a bit.
It's was said he wanted to go but him being a Blade ( kopite ) I find that hard to beleave as surely playing for us would have meant a lot to him.Wilder had him on loan at Northampton and talking to Wilder at the 25 year bash we had at the lane he said he hoped to keep him for the season ( we brought him back in January )as he was doing really well.
I accept we needed to get some money to strengthen the team but he's another jewel we have lost it was obviouse a few years ago ,he was going to be a very good player,I liken him in a way to Brooks as he just needed time to mature which he his at a rapid rate now.
Feel certain Brooks won't go cheaply ( Wilder has said he won't be sold in the window ) he like Calvert-Lewin
just needs time to mature and we have a possible star in our ranks.
When you look at the premiership players we have brought through ! It's just a shame we wernt in a position to keep them. The latest is Regan Slater keep your eyes on him he's going to be a good un,and we have a few more
who might come through. The academy has definitely paid off in recent years just hope it doasnt dry up now we have lost two important cogs from the organisation to Man Utd

The DCL transfer has never bothered me, we let a player go who wanted to move on and we reinvested the money in the squad which won promotion.

If we do the same this season with brooks it’s a no brainer. I’d happily take him being sold and go on to be world beater if it funds our promotion.

What will always fuck me off is selling the likes of Deane & Fjortoft, Walker & Naughton and even Jamie Murphy and hen pretty much saying goodbye to any chances of promotion and moving backwards because we took the easy money.

Hopefully the club has learnt from the past and the manager now has full control over deals, if he takes it he thinks it will help us achieve our goals thats the way it should be.

Wasn’t bothered at the time and not bothered now although I do wish the lad well and should he score 30 next season in the PL then I won’t have a right to be bothered.

For me, since he stepped into the pitch, Brooks has had more about him than DCL. Although I would have liked to keep DCL I think it has been a win for him and a win for The Mighty Blades. He would’ve been a luxury for us in our promotion battle and it wouldn’t have been fair to DCL to let him get ripped to pieces by armchair critics.

GLTTL , thank you and, who knows, hopefully he will be back at BDTBL next year.

I thought he looked a really good prospect with all the obvious attributes but weak, young and inexperienced. I'm not at all surprised that he's doing really well as he's matured. In fairness his transfer fee brought Lafferty, Moore and EEL to the club which was just what we needed so we can't really have any complaints. Many on here can't see past the outcome for young players. He gets knocked off the ball or makes poor decisions then he must be shit. It's like house hunting, just because the hall is painted in bright yellow gloss on the walls doesn't mean the house is a shit hole, it just means there is a bargain to be had

Paid off?

They all play for some other fucker.

Do we get some points if their team wins?

Until we do then the academy is a waste of time because we don't play for £'s, we play for points.

All selling does is weaken the club and the sales at best recover costs.

Spend the cash instead on players who would actually play for us.

Watched the game last night and he is a proper athlete!

I said at the end of last season my worry was lack of athleticism in our squad. DCL is the prime example of the difference between the PL and Championship. The top notch athletes make that step up.

His speed looked great, but his leaping was out of this world. Would love to see his vertical jump stats!

GLTTL. I just hope we have several bolt ons to the fee as he's just the type of player The Fat Butcher can get the most out of.

That’s what always stood out about him. If he improves his other skills to a premiership level then he’ll be a great player. Didn’t watch the game last night but in other games he’s still looked very raw, albeit better than when we saw him in red and white (not hard that).

Adkins said a few positive things about DCL before he got the sack about the only thing he got right during his tenure.

I thought he offered nothing in the few games I saw him play for us. Genuinely surprised he has quickly become first choice at Everton. I thought he might do a Jordan Slew.

However GLTTL.
Probably because they couldn't get any one else to sign once Lukaku had left

I'm still baffled by him to be honest.

At the time I couldn't believe we got 1m for him, however Everton probably feel they've had our pants down.

Not sure how he'll improve though, there's only so far running around will take you.

He’s Calverdant-Lewisham, not Marty Donne – he’s more than just a good runner, and he’d have never nailed down a regular role in the Premier League if that was his only attribute.

Good o.p. Finlay, I was a Lewin fan too but cerainly not 100% certain he would make the Prem and still not actually. He does the running, gets fouls and lasts 90 minutes but his general play is well short of top tier standard IMO but Everton have nobody any better though, ridiculous really. Has looked better in their first team than he did in ours which is an intetrsting one. I'd say he has got more first team playing time there than he would have here- another interesting point.

The big issue you mention Finlay is whether we have satisfactorily replaced our achievers who went to Man Utd and only time will tell. Big challenge for Binyon certainly.

Wilder has confirmed bofh Adams and Lewin wanted to leave and he therefore didn't want them to stay - fair enough.

...and there's nothing you can do if they want offski. And of course Dominic Kevin Klein, Walker, Naughton (who played for Swans last Night) - even Adams - look better players when they leave, they're surrounded by (far) better players. Adams has obviously undergone better fitness conditioning at Brum.

I agree completely. I always thought Koeman played him as a message to their board ('look I have to play a kid who's not good enough so give me loads of money'), and I just can't see him as premier class.

Obviously he is a 'good lad' and must train well as both Koeman and BFbentS, both play him.

GLTTL......and his girlfriend

Don't forget that we have at last got a good manager who has lifted the club to a point where players might just want to stay e.g. Brooks. The transformation had not begun when Adams and Lewin left.

The only player we sold who we shouldn't have in the last couple of years is Brayford. He would have given us cover and a tactical option for any position in the back three or mid five. It would have also averted the need for Sean Thornton to explain to everyone what "impairment" meant.

He works his ballax off, is a lovely lad off the pitch and never gave anything but 11000% every time he put the red and white on from the academy, to reserves, to first team.

I'm really happy for him.
