Hey Blades. this was only his second time out. He's a young lad and a bright prospect. What happened yesterday or even for the next 20 games matters not, he will find his level.

Let me compare his debut and second game with all our members, forgive the pun.

When you and I first had sex, and the second time come to that ( pun again ... if you did!!) , did it truly demonstrate your and my potential in that department? Weren't you much better after 20 tries?

Once you got to your prime didn't it embarrass you looking back to remember how bad you were those first two times?

Hope you have had more than 20 tries. I think the lad will get many more than 20 games!!!o_O

I too was very disappointed with his performance - he looked very weak and seemed very half hearted in everything he tried to do !
Whilst I will have to see much more of him to give a more reasoned critique he just looked so at sea that he may have to go out on loan to get some experience !

It would in any place where sanity reigns. Here in knee-jerk, single-cell, gobshite S2, anything goes...the dafter, the better....

What a pity management didn't 'instruct' him to play well!

Talking Bollocks - it's the Bladesfans' Way.

Ahh, but if he'd had a stormer and people were calling for him to start next time out that would be entirely down to "Bladey Bladeness" and they'd have been accused of taking bollocks anyway. Can't win either way can they those single cellers?

I thought both he and Adams looked so scared to death of making a mistake that neither one played their natural game. but if we do get promoted I can't see him getting a second chance next season to do it in the Championship on that showing....

Not going to judge him on that yesterday. Just looked like a new kid at work who didn't know what he was supposed to be doing and nobody had the time to show him.

Think that's fair. He got no help from his more mature team mates, which isn't good - but made me think that they know him and trust his ability anyway - which is good... and it was of no concern to anyone how he performed, just get him out there for experience, take it easy, and don't do anything stupid or hot-headed, given the result didn't really matter.

Good job people didn't turn on me when I was an apprentice bricklayer like this I wouldn't have got past mashing the tea.
Give the kid a break
Hmm, you spend the first couple of weeks mashing tea, mixing the gobbo, fetching sandwiches and cleaning trowels. Then, finally the Foreman decides you can lay a few. So for the final hour of the working day you lay 3 bricks and don't go anywhere near a corner or a window cause that's a bit too difficult.
Never mind, says your construction pals, he's nervous and will come good in time.
But why not lay 23 bricks and make your own mark early?

Soon got out of mashing tea made the worst tea ever .
Couldn't get out of fetching the sandwiches and chips though.
Had to clean the trowels and levels .
Touch our labourers hod and shovel you were dead they were his and his alone.

I agree you can't judge him on one appearence, but surely given an half hour opportunity in the first team you'd at least show some passion, close down defenders and if nothing else make a nuisance of yourself.

I was looking forward to watching him but he showed very little, strolled about at half pace and did nothing constructive on the few occasions he touched the ball. To be fair, he looked a long way off being ready for the first team on that performance, which is disappointing.

Kinda shows that you cant always "just throw kids in... they will at least show some fight and passion" doesnt always work... as fans expect it to....

My first job was as a Butchers Lad, cleaning, carrying, making tea, and most importantly and frequently, taking betting slips across to Turf Accountants. It took a while and quite a bit of training before I was let loose on a carcass with a filleting knife and the boss did not expect it to be perfect, what went wrong was turned into mince. Having said that, I had to learn quick or it was a future scraping benches and cleaning freezers.

In short, when a player has a marvellous home debut then it's all cheers and bunting and too much expectation. He didn't have a very good game, by any measure, but give him time. Next season now.

I thought it would be fairly noticeable to people that there's a slight difference in our everyday working life compared to the career of a professional football player.

All I can say is give the kid a break. Looked half decent when he came on at Orient and up until 6 months ago I think I'd seen him play up front once. He's a midfielder and I was baffled when he didn't put him on the right when he came on against Chestefield.

I sort of agree Daz, it is a different job, but so is mine from yours and we all got to start somewhere. It's always been the case that as fans we have one idea about the life and times of a professional footballer, but the one's I know really do treat it more like a normal job. Which in a way is criminal given the wages some of them earn. But I really agree with your second paragraph.

I know where you're coming from and it's obvious too many don't realise how lucky they have it.

What I was getting at was more the pressure, you never know how you'd handle coming on in that situation and even if he wasn't at it, he will have learnt a hell of a lot in that time in front of a large crowd and up against a centre half with years of experience.

Minisnterpretted your point Daz, I now agree with both paragrpahs 100%
