CAHILL - I'M STICKING WITH VILLA

On-loan defender Gary Cahill has dismissed reports he is set for a permanent move to Sheffield United.

The Aston Villa player is highly thought of at Bramall Lane after joining the Blades on a three-month loan deal which expires in December.

Reports had suggested Bryan Robson would move to sign him permanently when the transfer window opens in January but Cahill insists that he wants to be playing for Villa in the Premier League.

He told Villa's official website: "I don't know where that has come from because I haven't spoken to the manager here or the manager back at Villa about that.

"There was nothing said at any time that it could become permanent. The manager knocked back my loan the first time and he said that he didn't want me to go.

"I've got an apartment in Sheffield and it is comfortable being near people that I know. But I am due back at Villa on December 18. My home and my career still lie in Birmingham."

Wonder if we can extend his loan for atleast another 2 or 3 weeks atleast.

didn't expect to sign him, still disappointing to see though, hopefully we can get bardsley though :)

call me picky, but he can hardly say his future lies elsewhere when he's still contracted to Villa and neither party have had talks?

true but didn't bardsley say he could wouldn't mind joining united full time, i know he's not been in first team as much as cahill at their respective clubs but still

Players are very cagey about their future these days when they may get a few thousand more in wages by staying/moving etc....

Unless of course they want to play first team football or they love a club.

I think the "I'M STICKING WITH VILLA" title of the article somewhat over-shadows the actual content of the article.

What else can he say, he is contrated to play for Aston Villa in the premiership. I believe it is all part of the negotiations.

"My home and my career still lie in Birmingham."

I think that pretty much says it all. Of course the lad isn't going to come out and say that he wants to leave and join us but on the same note, if he were entertaining the idea then i would expect him to give a less finite response.

Something along the lines of "I really want to stay at Villa but if first team football cannot be gaurenteed then i would be happy to join Sheffield United" would give me a glimmar of hope.

"I really want to stay at Villa but if first team football cannot be gaurenteed then i would be happy to join Sheffield United"
That would come under some sensationalist headline like "O'NEILL GIVEN ULTIMATUM" or "VILLA ACE DEMANDS GAMES" or ""PLAY ME OR LOSE ME!"", don't you reckon?

Perhaps, but i think you see what i'm getting at here; his statement doesn't even mention the possibility of a move away from villa. Look at the noises being made by Bardsley and you will see an example of a player who is open to the possibility of a switch. Hence tomorrows headline:

"Bardsley demands move to bramall lane following following 6 years of hell at old trafford"

God bless the media.
