The next regular England right back, when Red Nev packs it in, will be Jags. Hopefully in a couple of years when we are back in the Premier League Jags will do a Billy and come back. We can but dream....

Seconded... maybe would have liked to see him stay but he was steady rather than spectacular for us last season and the money will come in handy.

hes put in some ace performances, a few dodgy ones (due to warnocks tactics) but the lad put his all in everything.

Unsworth on Jags on the Everton OS........

David Unsworth is convinced that Phil Jagielka will prove to be a big success at Everton.

Unsworth was a team-mate of the Blues new signing when they were together at Sheffield United (the pair are pictured above celebrating promotion) and he's tipping his pal to be a hit with the Goodison faithful.

"Without a doubt," he enthused. "When he gets a great tackle in on someone early doors on his debut then the fans will take to him - and Jags loves a tackle!"

Jagielka comes to Everton with a reputation for being a versatile operator and Unsworth claimed that wherever David Moyes opts to select him, the player will do a good job.

"I don't know where he'll play but wherever it is, Jags won't let anybody down," said Unsy. "He's quick, good in the air and being at Everton around better players, with all due respect to Sheffield United, will only improve him as a player.

"He's a terrific lad, too. A really top man and he's a big Evertonian. When we were team-mates he would always be asking me about Everton."

Jagielka was a schoolboy Everton footballer when David Unsworth was a first-team player but he was released and had to take a long route to Goodison via Yorkshire.

"I know he was gutted when he left Everton," said Unsy. "But it just goes to prove once again to all youngsters that there is always a way back if you want it enough and work hard enough.

"I am delighted for him that he's got his move to Everton and I am made up, as an Evertonian, that we have got him.

"He's a great, honest lad and he will settle straight away in the dressing room. At £4million I think we can consider him to be a bargain."

Just before half-time, Johnson, who was clearly out to impress Moyes, again showed his strength, controlling a corner and setting up Joleon Lescott.

Lescott's shot was cleared off the line only for Jagielka to head in his first goal for the club since his £4m move from Sheffield United in the summer.

Warnock inspired release clause meant we lost him for £4m (buttons) around the time that City paid 4x the fee for that CB from Wolves for £16m.
No one will ever convincingly explain that handball which relegated us and of course it had to be Rhino - who Warnock had let go to Wigan - who slotted home in another bizarre twist of Bladey Bad Luck.

At least Jags reminds me of the incredible production line of young talent that's come out of the Lane compared to the pigsty , or indeed most other clubs
