By Request - Goals For and Against Comparison Graphs

In the Matchday 3 Graph Thread jono_t2000 asked me to do a goals comparison:-

"Cheers for this ucandomagic

Any chance of a graph tracking average goals per game vs previous premier league seasons (should be 0.66 currently)

And possibly also average goals conceded per game vs prev seasons (should currently be 1.66)

Not sure how easy it would be for you to track how those averages fluctuated from game to game on previous seasons tho."


I've put these 2 comparisons on the graphs below.

As Jono said, we have scored 0.67 goals per game and conceded and average 1,67 this season
In our successful 2019/20 season we averaged 1.03 scored and 1,03 conceded over the whole season - 39 both for and against.
In our unsuccesful 2020/21 season we averaged 0.53 goals per game and conceded an average 1.66 - 20 for and 63 against.

The graphs show the variations in average over the season and where we compare after just 3 games.

Cheers ucandomagic! Good to see us ahead of 20/21 progress on one metric, at least. Although of course all we need is one win before Christmas to be comfortably ahead on the points curve.

Fantastic extra graphs Graphman ucdm.

Not looking good defensively at present, having a worse average goals against than 20/21.

We’ve conceded some really sloppy goals - almost all from crosses, both in the air and on the ground. So much for having a new specialised defence coach!!

One simply can't concede this amount of goals, whilst not scoring more goals than once concedes and win a game. Sad

Hence use of the phrase "may win the league" rather than " have won the league" or "will win the league" ... Proof reading not your strong point?

Seems I may have touched a nerve. In your fantasy football riddled imagination, one admits that yes, no matter how farcical and infantile a scenario it is that you have painted with your thirty eight nil loss, yes it is possible.

I've got to go to work now as most adults do. Enjoy the last week of your summer holidays. I'm glad you've conceded it was possible however unlikely, which was your original point.
