No he didn't, but was one of a very few bright sparks out of the 22 that played. If he continues to show that sort of promising form, then he could very well convince NC that he starts on Aug 9th.

After seeing him for 45 minutes he is very much in the role of a Luis Suarez - tricky, skillfull and a constant threat to any number of defenders around him.

Well said. What i can't believe is we have fans who actually stick up for Porter left right and centre, yet we have a player in Diego who's alot more willing and as soon as someone mentions him on here they go on the attack using the fancy name and attitude bullshit excuses.

Spot on. There are a few fans who rate Diego purely because of his fancy name. There seems to be lot more who are do determined to not be sucked into the fancy name thing that they don't want to recognise any prospect

Just for the record, Beavon isn't God's gift to football. He did little for PNE last season and is considered a hard working but ordinary footballer. The fact he's gone to the bottom tier reflects this.

He may well be a better all round player than Porter, but if we need an aerial option then Porter would be the choice.

I'm not having this top goalscorer last season shit with Porter,my 5 year old daughter could have scored most of them and quite frankly he's not fit to lace her boots(not that she's got any)but you get my point.

How exactly do you define "a lot more willing"?

They are two very different types of player.

They *both* regularly effect the judgement of some supporters due to their names.

There are also many people who become experts on a player after seeing them for mere minutes. It's amazing how many around us formed final opinions on the basis of 45 minutes pre-season.

the crowd was 2,200 I think and I reckon we had more - 1,200 ish at a guess. More stiing on the side and lots stood up behind the goal. First time I have stood up in 20 years!
noise in the 2nd half was more like a league game - great noise for a friendly.

...and the "new" song will be very popular - started back end of last season, but sure it will become the favourite this season.

If you think Basham is a holding midfield player who will challenge Doyle then forget it - he gets forward and makes late runs into the box.

Could he be the replacement for Coady then? How did he look on the ball?

When Porter couldn't make the bench in a loan spell at 4th division Chesterfield, it wasn't his name holding him back. :)

I still like frightening the life out of my Spireite mate by telling h I've heard they're in for Porter. If only.

Hey now we have had 90 minutes to judge the new team the gloves are off. I almost want to see Porter start on the opening day to see the utter implosion .

Facebook went into meltdown on Saturday night blaming Porter for the defeat.

Suprised someone didnt blame him for that plane being shot down, although he would have missed (I will say it for you)

I am not judging anyone on 45 mins foxy.I've watched Diego quite a few times and i've seen porter lots of times, and i'm trying to not be funny here but if you can't tell after a hell of alot of minutes that Porter isn't good enough, then thats not my fault. If anyone thinks that Porter is good enough to play for us then i seriously think you need to have a look at your footballing knowledge.

The 45 mins comment wasn't aimed directly at you. Unless you were stood near us on Saturday.

You'd probably better have a word with the club and get yourself in the current blokes position, given that he needs a look at his footballing knowledge ;)

I've allready put on another thread that i think its his first genuine error and i will stand by that, its all about opinions i suppose and there is no one more than me who would love porter to prove me wrong but i just can't see it,lets get one thing straight though,i won't stop supporting the lad if or when he plays.

Porter is there to do what Porter does, which is in no way shape or form what De Girolamo does. Likewise t'other way round. Mainly because neither is built to do what the other does.

If you want to discuss who you think is the more successful at their particular role, or who will be the best in the long-term, fine. However, direct comparison is like comparing Mike Tyson with Carlos Zarate.

I wasn't directly comparing the two,if you look at my initial post in post 29 i was trying to get the point across that some of our lot stick up for one player through thick and thin and then when someone mentioned another player the same people were trying to say he's not good enough for us, but that debates over and i don't want to fall out over a debate over our own players, that would be stupid.I like your comparison though SEB and i think Tyson is marginally biter,i mean better:D

It's all opinions! And there's only one that matters :D

And pound for pound Zarate was miles better than Tyson. ;)

I'm honestly not disputing Zarate was better,i was just trying to get the pun of Tyson been a biter but i'll get me coat.

Sadly, I suspect you really do. These days You seem to devote too much anger reacting to posters on here than commenting on what's happening at our club. It's a real shame you've become so irked as you used to really add something as far as I was concerned.

Fertiliser and a 30 goal a season striker bring different things to the pitch, but they are still chalk and cheese in terms of worth and likely contribution to us escaping this division.

Aye, but a mud heap of a pitch might mean said striker only gets 20 goals. And worth of said striker plummets along with that promotion.

I'll be Ok when we start talking about kicking a ball around and not discussing the thickness of the stripes on the shirt.

Just a shame you didn't equally respond to the post where I said I would be disappointed if Porter started next season. Just admit it Alco you would be lost without me :)
