Interesting to hear Wilder claim that Burnley are the most talked about club inside his own football club, and wanted to look at following them as an example of how to build season upon season at this level.

Although i've received criticism on multiple occasions from drawing the same exact conclusions, it's interesting Wilder feels the exact same way and is actively encouraging the comparisons himself.

I like Burnley, I think they play decent football too, especially this season and the second half of last.

They play very different football though to us, that's where people getting the hump are coming from.

In broad terms, we're both hard to beat and that's a big part of our identity, but that's about as lazy as you can get when it comes to analysis, that's why people have a problem with it.

They play a certain way, with a tricky winger, balls out of defence, and big men up front, they're high on long balls and aerial duals won, but are low on passing moves with more than 10 passes.

They don't go through midfield a lot, whereas Lunny, Norwood and Fleck passing it around and bringing others in is our preferred style.

Sure you'll find some on here talking down about dinosaur hoofball probably, but not me, it's just being effective with what you have. That's the mark of a good manager, shit ones try and apply a system and stick to it rigidly even when they don't have the personnel or cash to buy the personnel.

We'd just like to be recognised for an individual team with our own style, the pundits and analysts are getting paid handsomely, they should do a bit of work.

Burnley are a great example of gradual improvement and achievement without betting the farm though no doubt.

I think Burnley have done very well to establish themselves in the PL , I think a lot of the negativity around them is generated from the London based press who don’t like an unfashionable Northern club getting in the way of their beloved Arsenal , Spurs & West Ham’s of the world . Watching them they can vary their game & are tough nut to crack . I think it’s a good blue print to follow & can understand why Wider is using them as a comparison

If we replicate Burnley’s recent seasons without playing their style, it’ll be a far greater achievement.

I don’t begrudge them doing it, but it’s often ugly as sin.
