We would have probably been better signing Usain Bolt, than Burke.
Similar attributes but no actual football technique whatsoever.

They had our pants down. And the thing is even a few know nothings on here (me included) thought at the time that it was a bad deal and couldn't understand it.

Whisper it quietly, but sometimes us PlayStation managers who have watched and played football for decades (admittedly at a much lower level for the latter) might actually have a valid opinion on what's going on and who is a decent player or not...
My mate, who also played in the 18th tier of football, insisted Burke would terrify defences.

The most clueless people I know (footballing wise) are generally the ones who’ve “played a bit”.

He'd do well for a Warnock type. Literally tell him to hang wide, beat his man then cross it. Simple.
That's exactly what he needs and he'll probably find his best form in a traditional 442 formation. I thought this season under Slav it might happen but I have to admit he just hasnt affected games enough. Whether that's confidence or formation I don't know, maybe he's just not good enough at this level but that certainly want the case at forest when he first broke through.

The Robinson?burke swap transfer was bizarre to say the least. I think it may have been to get Robinson away from Moose as in all the videos from training at that time those 2 just seemed to act like dicks together

I wanted it work out for him at BDTBL because he the best combination of pace and power since Kyle Walker, or maybe Christian Nade, all three are solidly built lads with pace to spare.

Burke is possibly the fastest bloke I have seen in years, he just needs to slow down as he approaches the opposition box, but seems incapable of that.

I think there's a player in there, just think he's not found where he's most affective. There's probably some bad coaching as well along the way. He might want to look at Antonio for example as someone to emulate as they're both quite similar in terms of position and stature. Obviously Burke isn't that level.

Is there any striker that Warnock won't buy?

As much as I wanted Burke to succeed, I just can't see him doing so at Utd - the total lack of a footballing brain makes him impossible to integrate within a team.

I honestly wouldn't know where to play him - maybe right side of an attacking 3 but again, his lack of end product and inability to partner others negate his strengths.

It amazes me that he's racked up somewhere in the region of £30,000,000 in transfer fees

13 goals in 135 starts

7 years since his first start in League level football

That's a lot of transfer fee per goal/start is it not?

Caveat - transfer fees may or may not be accurate but not too far out I think - happy to be corrected

Wilder must have been pissed😂

I don't think Burke is the problem, myself. It's the fact that we keep playing with a ball, and the ball is his 'kryptonite'.
If ever the powers that be decide to trial a game where there is no ball, then he's going to be worth a fortune.

£3m plus Burke was the deal
This link suggests we paid in the region of 8m for him. It was announced as the pesky undiclosed:

If so, then anything less than 5m and we've taken a loss.

I can see Burke going for about 1.5m, meaning the profit from Rammers can be reduced by 3.5m. Given plenty will leave below their purchase value it will show what an abject summer that was, up their with Clough's final summer recruitment.

Absolutely couldn't care less about him leaving. That says everything about his time in red and white

I’m talking about the swap deal. Not the original transfer

edit: sorry I get what you’re saying now, yeah we probably did lose overall

The lad probably can't wait to get away. Chucked up front and asked to chase lost causes and challenge for aimless punts from the keeper, when he's basically been a wide player for most of his career. He was low on confidence when he arrived, being asked to play out of position in a poor team, has probably made him worse.

He’s got no footballing brain at all.

Put billy sharp’s brain in his body and you’ve got a player that would dominate the PL. and be worth 100m plus
