2 and a half year contract.

hope McCabes got a rabbit up his sleeve........................Bromby is ok for cover but deary me.........................

and the word is he was happy at BDTBL but the board wanted shut !

Picture is sickening :(... Info on stoke site though...

Stoke City Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of James Beattie from Sheffield United, for a fee which could rise to £3,500,000.

The 30 year old hitman has penned a two and a half year deal at the Britannia Stadium bringing an end to a hugely successful 18 month stay at Bramall Lane.

Beattie, capped by England in 2003, has already bagged 12 goals for the Blades this season, following on from the 22 he scored during the 2007/08 campaign to finish as the Championship's second highest scorer.

Announcing the news, Chief Executive Tony Scholes said: "We are absolutely delighted to have fought off competition from other top flight club's to secure James' signature.

"He is a proven goal scorer with international and Premier League experience, and by signing a player like him it shows how far this club has progressed."

An equally pleased Tony Pulis added: "James is a player who has an absolutely phenomenal goal scoring record and I am delighted to have him here.

"He has averaged more than a goal every other game for Sheffield, and he has a proven record of scoring in the top flight. "He is someone I have admired for a very, very long time."

"We have signed two fantastic players in Matthew Etherington and James Beattie, but we are still looking for two or three more before the closure of the window."

Oh well only we would sell our best player for less than we paid for him.

Unless Lita, Kitson, Nugent or Darren Bent sign then I will be seriously pissed off with this transfer.

Also if we fail to go up this season then united can forget me being a season ticket holder next year.

Well Mccabe has his wish. Now lets see if he keeps his word & gives Blackwell backing.

I'm not going to say AMBITION MY ARSE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
even i can't believe McCabe would do this unless he has a plan !

What do yer say Baldrick ?????

£3.5M.... *Shakes head in disbelief

Edit. Actually it COULD rise to £3.5. So whats the REAL upfront fee?

D'ya support James Beattie or Sheffield United?

Well I probably won't be able to afford a season ticket next season anyway.

I know everybody want's to play in the prem but stoke could be going the other way? Thought Beats would have waited for a better offer?

You should be asking the board if they support Sheff Utd.

Back to the bad old days again!

I am starting to think that aswell.

Mind you we could wake up to the signing of Lita?

Sounds like we bloody drove him to Stoke.

Forget hanging on for a better offer for him in terms of club and for us in terms of fee.

According to the rumours he'd signed on friday, so why do we believe the other rumours?

James Beattie was in a position of power and if he didn't want to go, he wouldn't have.

I'm waiting to see what United have to say on the matter, if they aren't forthcoming then I will ask them.

In the picture on the Stoke site he doesnt look over the moon to be signing for them.

or he still has a "touch of the flu"

I'm waiting for the .........................same owd................hoping and praying for a pleasent suprise !

Man flu, very serious indeed, made all the better by a £40k per week pay check. I wish him well, it was good to have a 'star player' at the lane for a change, but I suspect we are going back to journeyman footballers again.

I would have expected you to know what was going to happen BB, now I am a multi millionaire after following your lottery numbers I dont need to worry about whats happening!!!!!

I just can see someone like Cresswell being signed.

Especially now Lita seems to have sorted things at Reading. Although that could be a smokescreen.

Absolutely disgraced..."we are sure he will be an outstanding player for Stoke City"

...Now correct me if I'm wrong, but of what interest to us is the progression and development of Stoke City. Surely our priority should be our 'ambition' to get us back to the promised land. Whether he was happy here or not our whole approach to the situation was far too laid back for my liking. Look how 'Boro handled Stewart Downing. A bit of balls from McCabe/Blackie and we may still have him.

Very very disappointed SUFC...Perhaps a little hasty but this demonstrates no ambition and unless a very impressive incoming is produced I will not be changing my view on the situation.

:D:D:D

Is McCabe cashing in all together ? ........ mmmmmm i wonder.

Less than we paid for him though!

Ahhh the more I read it the more it pisses me off!

The final kick in the teeth will be the confirmation that Everton are getting a slice of the fee.

this is a proper baffling bit of footballing "business". I hope this planned replacement is effing good because I don't have faith in our remaining strikers or our current style of play to help us keep pace with the other play off hopefuls. There are some really odd decisions being made and man management going on that seem destined to keep us from playing attacking football. I'll despair if we end up in mid table mediocrity again. This division is about goals cause top 8 or so are all capable of losing to each other.

Well we are doing a good job at making sure we stay in this league for another decade.

Unless we pull something out of the hat to replace Beattie.

mcCabe is a bussiness man and a very good one, look at what he's done for us.. He's turned us from being a club in serious debt and non exsistence with no john street stand or hotel and corners etc, to a club who's debt is now 1.5mil has one of the best youth facilities in this country and a team that has players and fans that now have a real feel that we should be a premiership club. In the current economic slump were in i'm sure mcCabe felt the financial side of selling BT far out weighed the financial side of keeping him, we must remember the championship just doesn't generate the revenue that the prem does and our parachute money is running out. OK BT may have helped us get back to the prem but one player doesn't make a team, it sure helps but BT is'nt sheff utd, WE ARE.. So lets now forget BT and get behind the lads who so far apart from the first 6games haven't been brilliant but where sitting in fourth place.... COME ON BLADES!!!!
