Bryan Robson

The worst part of the Robson appointment was that it was clearly a poor one from the start.

McCabe must have been the only person with any connection to SUFC that thought it was a good idea.

Terry Robinson was hugely influential too. In Robson's book, which came out before he joined united, Robinson is listed in the acknowledgements

Robson's personal problem was common knowledge well before the appointment, certainly back to his spell managing the Smoggies and (according to some Man U fans I know) even back to the end of his playing days. Either McCabe had somehow managed to avoid this bit of information or he thought it didn't matter.

Fair play, forgot about Turry. Two idiots then!

None of the fans wanted him that’s for sure.

Worst manager ever. The one time in our history we had more money than anyone else in the division and we let this cock womble piss it up again the wall,

He signed some great players
Pity it was like watching paint dry during games

With the benefit of hindsight, Robson got dragged over the coals for his liking of a drink, the same with Howard Kendall, but yet we have a manager now who is well renowned for his liking of Peroni, but when it counts produces the goods, i don't think Robsons liking of a drink would have been an issue if he had produced the goods on the pitch which he didn't.

Robson was the managerial appointment of that fat cunt Terry Robinson, McCabe at that time wasn't as involved with the club as delegated a lot of the responsiblity of running the club to Jason Rockett and Terry Robinson, as at the time he was involved in a couple of massive property deals, and it was around the time of a huge global recession and the banks collapsing.

To my mind McCabes biggest mistake was handing over the effective running of the club on the playing side to that fucking oaf Robinson, he was loathed when he was chairman of Bury, presided over a financial crisis and slip down the leagues at the Shakers, and that should have set alarm bells ringing, but i think he will have come in with his connections in high places and on the back of a friendship with Neil Warnock.

When the time came to replace Warnock we could have had our pick of any decent available manager and would have been a very attractive proposition to a lot of managers already in work, but yet Robinson brought his mate Robson in, and that appointment alone set us back at least 10 years. I said it at the time and it came to pass, and if Robson had been allowed to continue then we would have gone down that season as we was that poor.

Agree with all that apart from the first bit. There's a big difference between liking a drink, just like we (mostly) all do and being a raving alco

It could be argued that this was the 2nd of 2 massive errors that would go on to define SUFC for years to come. The 1st was not spending the James Beattie fee 6 months sooner, something which could have well meant that the 2nd never happened.

Actually selling James Beattie was a mistake. Which have led to both scenarios in your post from ever happening

That shitty wooden table Robson used to have next to the dugout to put his water bottle on provided the most entertaining moment of his entire tenure, when someone cleared the ball and it knocked the table over.... That is all I care to remember about the leech!

We were losing at home (Arsenal LC?) and some old bloke with a bad limp came off the cop and wandered over to chuck his season ticket at Robson. He just didn't get it all and never made any connection with the fans. To make things worse, he didn't even seem to try.

The writing was on the wall when he said the derby was 'just another game'. It might welll be for him but he never remotely understood us and how important beating the filth is.

Wanker!

that cringeworthy shit article in the programme every week about one of ' Robbo's magical moments' or something similar - Robinson /McCabde were so far us his drunken useless arse

absolute disgrace of a manager and as others have said set us back 10+ years

The Steel City Derby was "just another game" to him, though I do wonder if he'd have said the same about the Manchester derby or Man U v Liverpool.

A truly awful manager, appointed based on his name and reputation as a player, but with absolutely no track record as a manager. Spent millions to get Middlesbrough to a couple of League cup finals, although some would classify that as a success these days.

Passion, commitment and pride for the shirt are terms which can be overused in a Football sense, but this man had absolutely no idea about the identity of this club or its supporters.

Can't agree....Adkins gets that accolade....just....and I have seen some proper shite in from of 8.5K fans at BDTBL under McEwan as well as Heath and Weir...

One of KM's worst mistakes. I've defended him plenty of times for his financial committemnt to the club, but Robson was a pisspoor judgement call. Worse than that, I think KM was still saying afterwards, that Robson could have done it but had to sack him because of the fans.
For once the 'fickle fans' actually did the club a massive service, getting rid of the useless git.
The cynic in me believes that McCabe wanted Robson not just for his abilities(?) as a manager, but also so he had a "name" to glad-hand people for his business deals. Some half-decent players were brought in, but Robson couldn't motivate them or mould them into a team.

Adkins had the worst team.

Robson had better players and got nowt out of them.

How many Blades will buy tickets for that? They may as well try and flog us an evening with David Weir, or Micky Adams. I suspect it will be full of die-hard Man U fans who’ve been to Old Trafford less than I have, and I’ve only been three times.

I certainly wouldn’t spend money on an evening with Bryan Robson. Free ticket? No thanks.
