think about it...will only cost us £360k, and if he flops then e haven't wsated £2Mill plus wages on him. i'd rather do that, and sign another guy in January.

Also, i very much doubt Wigan are paying him 30k a week, probably closer to about 18k plus bonuses. I reckon we'll have a deal in place to sign him in January on lower wage with lots of extra bonuses depending on goals, apps, promotion etc

Good deal if it's true i reckon

If the wages reported are correct, then I'd just rather sign another person.

Sotonblade, I agree completely. Good low-risk way of getting a player in. And the money we'll have made from playing Arsenal in the Lager Cup will pay for him to be here.

I think even if he is on those kind of wages and we have to pay 100% of them it is still a good deal. We just sold Tonge for £2m so it's hardly like we have to watch the pennies closely. It's worth a gamble and as said above, if it doesn't come off and he's shit, we have another month in which to find someone else who is suitable.

With £10 tickets, I doubt it ;)

Emirates holds 60,355 fans, and gate receipts are split three ways - the home team, the away team, and the FA.

Tickets are £10 in the lower tier, and £20 in the upper tier - if purchased before 12th September.

There are more upper tier seats than lower tier.

At a conservative estimate, if they sell 30,000 upper tier tickets at £20 each, and 10,000 lower tier at £10 each, that makes £700,000. Split three ways, that would make £233,333. And yes, it's only the Carling Cup, but Arsenal vs Blades matches always seem to get good attendance.

Add in the prize money for getting to this round, and it's probably not too far off. Either way, it's certainly less of a gamble than buying a player outright, I suppose. This is kind of like a 'try before you buy'. And let's not forget, this is assuming that his wages are actually £30,000 per week.

Less the taxman, expenses bla bla bla.

I dunno, I'm just trying to be difficult as I don't wanna see Brown come back and be a failure.... after all we all hold him in such high regard, I just don't want to ruin that.

You, trying to be difficult? I don't believe that for a second ;)

I know what you mean with Brown, but what will be will be I guess.

He's already on the way to doing this himself with his girly hair :D

Jesus these guys dont like him

Michael Brown's career is starting to go downhill and the decline has come not a moment too soon.

The spiteful midfielder has dropped out of the Premier League in a loan move from Wigan to Sheffield United and if that is the start of a downward spiral it is well deserved.

Brown is a nasty, wind-up merchant who can have few friends among the many opponents he has fouled in his career.

He is not a tough player, but sly and cowardly and his game is not good enough to compensate.

Brown's record shows 11 yellow cards last season and 10 the year before that. There is only one red in the last three campaigns, but that is because his fouls are always in cold blood.

If Brown had blonde flowing locks and a big mouth, he would have given Robbie Savage a run for his money in the Premier League villainy stakes. He will not be missed.

Does this confirm he has come then?

That is a very harsh article on the guy

My Browny he scored against Wednesday,
My Browny he scored one of three,
But now he's in exile in Wigan,
So bring back my Browny to me.

Bring back, bring back,
Oh bring back my Browny to me, to me,
Bring back, bring back,
Oh bring back my Browny to me.....

With apologies to any sweaties who like folk songs.

Blades want Brown on three-month loan

taken from yesterday's Star :)

SHEFFIELD United are believed to be working towards a three months loan spell if they can land their former favourite Michael Brown.
The ex-Blades midfielder is understood to be manager Kevin Blackwell's major target for when the loan transfer window re-opens on Tuesday.

There is speculation that Brown, currently at Wigan after previously being with Spurs and Fulham, will return on loan for a spell that would keep him at the Lane until December.

Another possible target is the Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson, capped by England at both Under 19 and Under 21 levels.

Johnson, who plays on the left, had a spell at Leeds when Blackwell was in charge at Elland Road. He also had a successful loan spell at Watford last season.

Sources on Teesside say that Johnson could be one of those who may be available to go out on loan from next week.

David Cotterill is looking to get the nod from Wales manager John Toshack for their World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan whilst the man he is vying with for the right win spot at the Lane, Keith Gillespie, starts for Northern Ireland away to Slovakia.

Without trying to sound like a doom and gloom merchant, how much more can Brown offer us than Speed?

Who is going to be the creative MF player if Brown and Speed start together?

He was once a legend but I don't want him back, he's just not the same player as he was for us in the past.

We need someone who can create things, it's OK winning the ball back but if we've got no-one to create chances, how are we gonna score.

i hope we aren't going to be as predictable as, get the ball, play if out wide and cross it in. Cos with the players being touted about, that's what it seems like to me.

Who is going to be the creative MF player if Brown and Speed start together?

I don't know where people get their information that Brown isn't creative. Surely you watched him all them years ago for the Blades? How many assists and goals did he get?

Also Speed has 2 assists from 4 games I believe, not bad for somebody who isn't creative. To be honest, some of the balls that Speed provides are truly fantastic. I don't envisage a problem.
