I'm not too sure anymore
i would like to say a well done to all blades fans last night for the warm reception that brown got last night. Also well done to all for the minutes silence including the 300 fulham fans.

Yeah...thought that minutes silence was needless tbh.

A 90 year old bloke and a united fan whodied, which happens every day.

Harsh I know.

90-year old ex player and a woman who virtually died on the kop during a game? it doesn't really rank in my list of most pointless minutes silences tbh.

I'm sure if her family were present they would appreciate the respect shown by fellow Blades.

Hardly "needless" to them.

When the average life age in 76 and he died in his sleep at 90, no i dont think a minutes silence is needed.

Maybe the Women is more appropriote but i dont see the difference with a united fan dying in a hospital taken from the game from all other united fans who die everyday across the world.

We cant have minutes silences for every blade that passes away.

Didn't the guy work for the club for a long time too??

Do we have a minutes silence for every single player or staff member thats worked at the club?

Maybe im being harsh, needless probably wasnt the best word to use. For the Women yes I can now understand but not for an 90 year old man who died in his sleep, sorry.

I think they generally have one for present and past staff members, certainly ones that worked at the club a long time.

I know it may get out of hand with all the extras we seem to have had recently.

But perhaps these 2 are more justified than some others we have had.

I think the minutes silence was worthwhile.

Had the woman who died, not been at the lane (when she collapsed), undoubtedly there be no silence for her, but she was.

Well lets hope that when your time comes it never gets recognised by fellow Blades.

You are so cold hearted I'm suprised you have emotions at all. Try having some respect - that poor woman probably saw her last sights at Bramall Lane, and could have been your poor face that she saw last. Have some respect - people wanted to show their respects - you must be the only person I've heard disrespect it. She was only in her mid-50s - she'd still got most of her life to live - her sons & husband saw her collapse and have to be almost revived. 30,000 others saw what happened (including players who she paid to watch week in and week out), and saw his poor woman have to be revived with red blankets to protect her privacy and you don't think it's appropriate to stand still for 60 seconds and to think about her, and her family and how lucky you are that you're still having a healthy life?

"Some 90yr old guy"? Those players on that pitch last night will all have their moments - they might reach 90, maybe more maybe less. I for one will hold my head proud at Bramall Lane should they pass in my lifetime and think how proud I was to watch them play and see them as my heroes. Folks back in his playing days probably thought exactly the same so think about people living before you, and think about when it's your time to go - maybe you'd not want people just to ignore you and thank you for your services for what you've done in your lifetime?

Or just leave you to rot as if you ever existed.

Hope you're a bit embarassed with yourself, Sharpster. You'll probably not admit it though, even if you are. What an idiotic comment to make.

Embarrased....er no not really.

Pretty sure im allowed to have my own opinions on things such as this.

If you'd read the previous posts then you can see i can understand the minutes silence for the women. I was probably out of order saying that was 'needless' because obviously it wasnt.

I still dont think a minutes silence for a 90 year old man is needed no matter if he played for us or not, i still did it like everybody else though.

No need to go all Daily Mail on me.

I feel sorry for anyone who hasn't got a minute in their life for reflection and respect for others.

I can see why the debate for minute's silences has come up because we seem to be having more and more nowadays.

I don't agree with having minute's silences for non-football related matters at football matches. Soham murders, September 11th, various members of royalty kicking the bucket - while often upsetting to the majority (royalty excluded), they're not really anything to do with football. Don't have a problem with Remembrance Day as a lot of footballers went off to fight in both World Wars and I think it's relevant to a lot of people who are in the crowd. Whether I agree with them or not, I honour them still the same.

I do think it is right for the club to honour fallen servants however. A death doesn't have to be necessarily tragic to warrant a minute to ponder their service to the club we all support. I am very happy to contribute to the silence when that person worked hard for Sheffield United in their lifetime. With the poor lady on the Kop, I think it was very relevant because she effectively died in the stands watching the club she loved in view of us all.

If anything, it should bring into harsh view your own mortality and how you should make the most of it while you can.

General question and going off at a tangent...

Have people who accuse other people of going all "Daily Mail" ever actually read the Daily Mail?

i couldnt agree with you more, as a club we all fall under a single banner, we are all blades with the some belief (although sometimes that belief can be debated between individuals).

For this very reason i would like to think that all my fellow supporters (Yes even you sharpy) could be classed as my extended family, and i for one would pay my respects to each and every person if there pasing was as highlighted as this.

and this goes for supporters, players (Past, present and future) staff etc. The ONLY exception that i would make to this would be certain players/staff that do not give 100% for the club throughout there time here.

Well said that man.

Its a mark of respect.... Ex-players from that era got sod all else, so a minutes remembrance is good. AND, if a supporter drops while at a match, I really think we should observe a moments silence. Its like losing a member of the family. It costs us nothing too, so lets show some respect please.

A bit harsh? Or a miserable twat? Either show some respect or just shut up.
