Sorry to go off topic and not talk about that filth Madine (whoops) but what has actually happened to to the £12m? When we were told loans I expected big loans that would get us pushing for the top 2. Dowell could be anything and that thing from Cardiff will weaken us as a club. So where is the loot to push us forward?

There are a lot more threads about this than Madine Bruce.

The money available is being spent on these two loans (assuming the Madine thing happens) and possibly one other. Not sure I understand the question. Because you don’t like the players Wilder has chosen there should be some extra money?

It was always going to be the case that the Jan transfer window would see us spend less than expected for 2 reasons.

1) The ownership is not settled and we are nearing the court date. You would have hoped both would see sense regarding investment being a win win for both parties but they haven’t.

2) CW doesn’t think you get good value in the JTW. He also failed miserably last window with a very different strategy (Wilson aside in terms of strategy)

It also worth remembering there may well be a loan fee and higher wages to factor in.

Kieron Dowell will be on £10k a week which we will be covering 100% plus fines for not playing plus a possible loan fee so his outlay could be around £500 - £750k.

Madine will be on £20k a week which we will probably cover most of and a loan fee so probably around so his outlay will be around £700k to £1mil

Chuck another in to the mix and you’re looking at between £1.7 and £2.7mil on loans.

So it’s not as if we haven’t/won’t spend but it does seem the Brooks cash has been taken off the table.

My disappointment is that we have yet to get a loan done at the same level of Mitrovic but Wilder did say one would take a while which would seem to suggest a more established/better quality player.

We could always increase ticket prices to help make up the difference between income from gate money and the cost of paying the players?

I've said countless times that that wouldn't bother me
I'd always pay more for quality and do my bit to increase the fans contribution to running things, but unfortunately most fans won't

The money either has already been used for wages and transfers already concluded, or will be used to make up the usual shortfalls.

This has to happen because our co owners can't or won't make further investment. Once the court case is over, nothing will change save that it will be one person spending less than most other Championship owners rather than two.

If Madine is the best we can do, I hope the first team can stay fit.

Perhaps because many fans can’t really afford what they contribute already? But if you want to start making additional voluntary contributions towards the running of the club go ahead & fill your boots.

5.5m bids for waghorn in the summer then go after Madine on loan in Jan. It doesn't make much sense to me.

Makes sense to me.

In the Summer we're looking at perm players who will be with us long term and we can build the team around.

In Jan we're looking at loans to plug gaps we need to get us over the line.

Those lamenting the Madine deal obviously didn't see the job he did for Cardiff at the same time last season and/or didn't watch the Ipswich game last week where we failed to put to bed a piss poor team.

Most of it will be absorbed by running costs of the club, the rest probably got used up on Egan, if the reported fee is to be believed.

Maybe at the start of the season CW thought that Sharps days might be numbered at top level
And McGoldrick won’t last the pace due to his constant injury problems.

Those 2 have been a revelation this season and one could argue it’d no longer top priority to bring in better strikers.

Imagine if we bought Jermaine Defoe who has almost an identical style to Billy Sharp.
Signing Defoe would mean that Sharp instantly drops to the bench and would be understudy sub for the rest of the season.

Think CW is gambling that Sharp and McG retain their excellent form as the best partnership in the league.

Maybe some can't afford an increase, but I think if somebody is on the absolute breadline they wouldn't be going to football matches anyway, there's always ways to save a few hundred extra quid a year to pay for an increase in season ticket prices without it affecting the majority of people's lifestyles
But as far as I'm concerned I'd pay more if it meant better quality players could be bought.

It's something successive boards at SUFC have perfected over the years, the vanishing transfer kitty trick, first you see it, then you don't. It's why the club continually punch well below their weight.

I would say wait for all the usual club apologists to be along shortly to fudge the issue but it looks like they're on this one already.

It doesn't vanish ,if you read the accounts it's tgere in black and white .that's how you've still got a club to support

You couldn’t possibly be more wrong. You clearly have no clue about financial reality for a large chunk of our fanbase. And many do get to matches despite being on the breadline.

I have to disagree on this one.

Luckily for me and my clan, I have done well in my career and I have had, and continue to get the financial rewards that go with it. However my nephew for example is a different matter. He has a young family and cannot afford either a season ticket or to attend a lot of the home games at the Lane on a game by game basis, as financially he is in a different place to me. He is however just as big a Blade as me, and whilst both me and my brother have offered to buy him a season ticket, he wouldn't have it as he 'has his pride....' (I understand his viewpoint but fuk me it's only me and his old man chucking a few hundred quid his way so I don't see it as charity in any way as he's my family, but i respect his opinion).

Bottom line, is that he goes when he can and when the finances allow. There will be many like my nephew who can't just chuck a few extra quid at it, or who can easily find a few hundred quid a year as the income just isnt there for them at the moment.

Utd have the prices about right imo, and they balance the books nd run the club as well as any club in football does these days. I think they have it right, though I would like to see a few more £10 admission games in the league from time to time (yes I know the cup game is a tenner tomorrow).
