Even a Brooks like nutmeg just before the 2 minutes mark
It would be a bare table if he was asked to put his medals on it.In terms of his style of running and the way he glides past players with the ball I can definitely see the comparisons with a young Waddle.
If he turns out to be half as good as Waddle was at his peak then we'll have some player, because it has to be said that Waddle was a magnificent player.
The similarities with Giggs are there, born in England, represented England as a youth, and then switched to Wales. Predominantly left footed but also good with his right, glides at pace past players as though they are invisible, etc !
Ferguson on Giggs:
"I remember the first time I saw him. He was 13 and just floated over the ground like a cocker spaniel chasing a piece of silver paper in the wind."
I'm not sure I'd go that doe-eyed when discussing a footballer but he certainly has that Giggs grace and balance about him, if not quite the same pace. If he works hard and keeps progressing he's going to be some player. If he adds goals to his game he is going to be world class.
David Brooks style of movement with the ball is one of almost lazy gracefulness which naturally gifted players tend to have. The ability to predict a manoeuvre without consciously thinking about it and do it without fear of failure is born in certain sportsmen which stands them above others. Keith Edwards was once asked what made him a natural goal scorer of goals compared to other strikers. His answer was simple in that he wasn't afraid of missing. He never thought of missing the target and if he did miss a goal it never bothered him. The same in some respect can be said of David Brooks. He's naturally gifted with running with a football and not afraid of losing possession. Look at the world's greatest players over the last 15-20 years and they all posess the same style of running with a ball which at times looks effortless and David Brooks is certainly in that mould.
Hold onto your hats because this young talent is something special and born to entertain.
Similarly, there are players who seem to show some of those qualities at a young age but never develop the other side of their game to become the top players they should be.
Ravel Morrison & Febian Brandy are just two that immediately spring to mind. I hope (and believe) that Brooks won’t fall into that category though.
Mezut Ozil!
I keep telling my Gooner mate, I've now found where Ozil has been hiding!
