I'm just repeating what other posters have said - there's no point being vague about the chances of promotion, we're (for the moment) top of the Championship, we're playing out of our skins, when necessary we can scrap with the best this division has to offer, so if the Premiership is within our grasp why would Wilder consider selling such a wonderful talent? We have Brooks for a further 4 years, so there's no need to panic. Of course, you could look at Southampton and follow their lead, where selling gifted young players became the norm as they had such a good academy that they could afford to off-load established players, but we're not quite in that league, at least yet.
What our current success will do is provide us with a gloss that is attractive to young footballers regionally and nationally. No matter what the Man City's, Spurs, or Chelsea's of this world feel is theirs as of a right, there'll always be a surplus of young talent eager to be accepted and wanting to take the chance of becoming a first team player. No doubt our academy, which is already established, will look to up their ambitions should we get promoted.....but I'm straying from the topic of this thread, the prospect of becoming a Premiership club will appeal to the ambitions and career potential of everyone connected with the Blades, and young Brooks will very much be central to these ambitions. If we achieve promotion we won't be going there for a jolly, for a quick-take-the-money-and-run outing, we'll want to earn the right to remain there the following season, and within this ambition Brooks can grow and progress. We have great players already, imagine what being in the Premiership will enable us to bring to the club? Wilder's ability to spot good footballer's is excellent, so why would that suddenly stop once we're a dedicated Prem team?
I know I may seem to be getting ahead of myself, but why not dream? Isn't that what being a supporter is meant to involve? After all, we've had 6 fucking seasons wasting away in the lower rungs of the Football League, so why not think about what could be. Wilder wants to manager in the Premiership, so why not with the Blades? If you doubt any of this then consider, it was 14 months ago that the mighty Blades were bottom of Division 1, and now, after one small miracle followed by another, here we are, currently top of the Championship. Later today or tomorrow we may have to hand that crown to a lesser club, but we've shown we're as good as we want to be, and that, after all, is what ambition is all about. UTMB!
