Just listened to Andy Giddings post match interview from last night. In any walk of life it is horrible seeing someone out of their depth and heading for the door. The Interview made very painful listening, DW sounds like a broken man who needs to be put out of his misery.

Saddest interview i've ever heard from a manager.
Either he knows he's going, or he doesn't care anymore.

Not going to be a good manager, has inflicted 13 games of shit and a wasted season on us and maybe relegation. Unfortunately his just desert will be £1M payoff and he'll be richer than pretty much any of us ever will be. No sympathy from me, its all part of the job that he has failed so miserably at.

If hes that broken then he should just walk away then he may salvage some respect

I have some sympathy for him. Lots of people try work that it turns out they are not suited for. That can be quite sad and is nobody's fault.

However, what is then the dignifed thing to do - wait to be sacked or resign? In the real world, where most of us live, we would only be entitled to a few weeks notice pay if we were sacked, and we would resign rather than have a sacking on our CV.

However, if you have a 3 year contract which has to be paid off if you are sacked, there is a massive incentive not to resign.

I don't know what Weir's financial circumstances are. He probably isn't on his uppers, but sacrificing three years pay is a big ask. Perhaps the fair thing to do would be for him to go to Winter or whoever and say "look, this is isn't working, give me six months pay and we can say I left by mutual consent".

Uncomfortable listening. And while it seems not the thing to do to praise Radio Sheffield, Andy Giddings did a good job under the testing circumstance of Weir either not wanting to or being unable to answer his questions.

I equated Weir to that of a schoolkid who is in trouble with the teacher. Mumbling belligerence with a slight bit of defiance. If it was possible to make himself seem less impressive, he managed it.

Nobody would quit when they get a juicy payoff for getting the sack.

He may be a crap manager, but the players aren't playing for him. Why should he walk away from his contract,
the players won't. It's the boards stupid fault for giving a manager with no experience a 3 year contract. Utter lunacy.

Lots of sense here Darren. Weir is human and possibly a nice bloke, the fact he is quiet and lacking in 'umph' when being interviewed doesn't cut no ice with me, that's his nature.
I'm sure he's feeling pretty shite about his failing in his first serious football managerial post but its a cut and thrust competitive arena as I'm sure he was all too aware.
Unfortunately SUFC and their fans are the real victims of this sad episode....

How much are we paying him? I doubt it is any more than £300K a year. If thats the case I reckon that half a million would pay off the contract.

Funny - the last time Radio Sheffield did this in a Weir interview we had all sorts of attacks on the station, the interviewer etc, the suggestion they were creating a story that wasn't there.

Best for him to admit he is out of his depth and work out a mutual way to leave the club.

Having been to the game last night, but only just seeing the interview, I must say I am shocked. This man is clearly dumbstruck by what is happening around him and has no idea whatsoever how to do anything about it.

I don't think he's out of his depth. I do think he has made a hole for himself that he can't get out of, however he will be better for the experience. I want him gone, however I did want him to succeed more.

If I could see him doing things to get out of this hole I would be for keeping him. I think he has badly let himself down, however even worse his backroom staff has let him down more. We have young players coming into this club wondering what the fuck they have let themselves in for.

What springs to mind for me is Carsley when he spoke to Foxy and a few others at the beginning of the season when he said he knew what the problem was and that we made the pitch too big for the opposition and that would change. Well it has changed and it's now a fucking ocean

If they came out and employed a DoF to help him I would be more inclined to keep him. I think Weir's loyalty to his staff will see him gone.

Although I blame Weir for a lot of the shite that's been on show for the past 12 games, the players must take a chunk of the blame. DW never set out to bore us to death or to lose the majority of our games and the players have been dire. I'd fucking sack them all the useless twats.

Agree with the OP it's never nice to see someone that down. Weir does seem like a genuinely nice bloke but sadly having a nice guy at the helm will not win us games. He was a good player and sounds like he's a good coach as well but being a manager is completely different.

However and in all seriousness.....how he is still in charge is beyond me. What could the board possibly be waiting for?!

logical for me would be to call on one of his mentors like Walter Smith to be his DOF.

I said weeks ago he needs some help.
It looks like he has lost all hope.

Whats all this about a dressing room meeting lasting over an hour after the defeat.

Apparently our disapearing captain Doyle said harsh words & home truths were exchanged.......

Fuck off. Youve said the same thing for weeks. Get out on the pitch you useless fuck & drag the team along.

I don't think that would work at all. If he gets undermined further as a manager, how is that gonna help?
And if the guy coming in doesn't have any input into team affairs, again how is that gonna help?
May have worked early on, but far too late to go down that route for me.
Be like trying to give the kiss of life to a chicken mcnugget.

Very sad to hear tbh, at the end of the day the guy is doing his very best, sadly his very best is a long long way from being good enough. I think if the board sacked him they would be doing him a big favour, please make him a decent offer KM and send him on his way he is suffering, the fans are suffering but more important SUFC are suffering. If the board has anything about them they will have already been looking for a replacement. Weir is like a guy on death row, he knows it's coming he just isn't sure when.

I eventually got the interview to play out here. If you listen right at the beginning he seems ok, then the interviewer mentions the chief exec and his voice and tone change. I think he has been warned/told off and was still quite shocked when interviewed. I think a loss against Cov will be the end.

Everybody has tough spells, it's how you get through it.

Right now i'm having a nightmare on football manager. Won my first Premier League title with SUFC, but then i dropped a major clanger. Sold my only consistently excellent ball-winning midfielder. Only a youngster really, 23, been in the reserves for ages but last season when i had to let my previous key bwm go (couldnt afford his wage demands) i stuck this kid in whilst trying to find a replacement. He played that well i never bothered signing one, ended the season with a 7.57 average rating. 1 goal and 8 assists in 20 league games. Real Madrid came in for him and he started moaning that he wanted to go. Usually i dig my heels in with my best players, but i made the decision to sell him. I signed this guy from Boca Juniors on a free transfer and Real Madrid were offering £40.5m. I thought ok £40.5m for a player i got for nothing, who had been in the reserves showing no major signs of progress for 2 years then had 1 great season, it made sense to let him go and use the money to sign a more established player.

Trouble was, ive now spent 7 months scouting everywhere and can't find a single BWM who is any good and will come who i can afford. Definitely should have made sure i had a replacement lined up before selling. Spent the first half of the season juggling my midfield to cope with it. I play a very attack-minded 3-5-2 with 2 wingers, 2 advanced playmakers, so the ball-winning midfielder in the middle is a vital cog. I have about 6 players who are strong advanced playmakers, but nobody who is making it happen as a bwm. 3 or 4 have 3 star ratings as a bwm, but don't get it done in the big games. Play much better in the AP role, which is what they're in the squad for. Without that guy in the middle to win us posession, the whole system fails. On top of that, our best right winger (and probably the best player in the entire squad) has been injured all season and to compound it, our 2nd best RW has been out all season too. We still have a squad of quality players, but constantly moving players around in positions they don't usually play in, is causing us problems. We've done well to struggle through so far in 4th position. I've had to really dig deep to keep us going.

Weir just hasn't got the dig-deep-ability that i have. :D

Time for Weir to go, probably, but really want to see the troublemakers go too. Too many of them in the dressing room, I'm sure we can all work out who they are. Wouldn't surprise me if some of them aren't sabotaging his ideas. The Board were warned about these 'jerks' months ago but chose to do nothing about it. Therein lies the blame. Do some of them have it written in their contracts that they should play every match? If I was Weir I'd get rid of Mr Poison Ivy aka Doyle, he has enough midfielders to do a better job, I'd also get rid of Collins, go and ask Leicester if we can loan St Ledger and bring Morgs back into the fold. Let him start mentoring Harry again and bring him back up to scratch.

Personally I would change the entire back four. Not all at once but Harry needs to know he isnt a shoe in starter like he is at the moment.
