I’m not sure I think as a team we go long constructively when we’re playing well anyway we did it yesterday at times winning the penalty and the Burke chance in the first half. The issue early on this year is player we’re just flicking it on into areas and hoping rather than looking up and making a positive decision and that won’t be managerial instructions. In terms of midfielders it’s 2 or 3 for me with only Lundstram leaving 1 DM because we’re light there already 1 AM because we don’t have one and 1 player to replace Lundstram. If Berge leaves we will need at least 4 imo.
well we should be in a good financial position and good prospects of coming straight back up to attract the top championship players to the lane know quite a few posters been on about a swap with stoke with rnd and joe allen he could be the defensive midfielder were looking at and we know chris has shown interest in allen before

Call me a bit too optimistic, call me stupid but just getting a bit fed up of defeatist comments like this. Chuck an If in there and thats fine but please I still have faith and hope whilst its still mathmatically possible.
i see your point but realistically weve practically no chance of staying up odds of 1/16 on dont lie and thats why most posts are referring to us being in the championship next season having said that i fancy us strongly to get back up first time of asking the championship is a poor league

Maybe with Allen it certainly wouldn’t be a punt id be against if it’s an RND loan but trading away a young prospect with high transfer value for an ageing player with very little future transfer value would be a bad business decision. We have an older athletically limited technician in there with Norwood. If we’re building to come back up and then kick on we need some youngish midfielders who are very good athletes to go along with being good technicians. Maybe someone like olise at reading although I haven’t watched him.

I disagree with you on Burke but agree on sharp and Didzy. I think our recruitment will probably focus elsewhere this summer given the heavy investment at that position the last two summers.
WE NEED MORE WINGBACKS !!!!!

i think ben osborns form at lwb may have influenced the rnd loan weve still got 3 for that spot but the rumour that it could be permanent is a bit worrying we really should be keeping hold of this lad and yes your right we need some younger physically athletic midfielders to come in just out of interest how much do you think we would get for berge ?

Bare minimum we should wipe our face on Berge and get a significant sell on fee agreed otherwise it’s not in the clubs interest to sell regardless of player opinion. If the fee offered is lower than what we paid and the player is determined to force a move (which Berge doesn’t strike me as the kind of person who would throw all the toys out of the pram) then we should look to loan him out for the year.

20m plus 20% sell on clause would do for me we can get 2 good midfielders for that if were in the championship maybe even 3

I’m not so sure you know championship prices have sky rocketed in the last two years in no small part due to villas buy at any price philosophy. We’re at a point where a talented yet injury prone David Brooks has a 50 million asking price. A starting championship midfielder who’s a decent age will probably set you back 10-15 million. The bargains will be up and coming league 1 players and fringe prem players at a decent age the Kieran dowells and Harrison reeds of years past and they won’t be cheap.

we would still get 2 decent midfielders for the championship for 20m imo for once we disagree yogi 🤔

We’d probably get two decent ones your right. But if the aim is to build a core to take us up and establish us we’ll need at least one of those 2 to be a standout player.

Bare minimum? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 McCabe is long gone. 22 year old Norwegian international wanted by most of Europe’s elite, before we stole a March. £40m minimum.

I meant bare minimum I wasn’t advocating selling him for that price just that if everything that could go wrong with the situation went wrong I.e player kicking off falling out with other players and staff demanding to leave then that’s what would be our basement price I agree his actual market value is much higher than that.

The club would be in a far worse position to both hold onto its top assets or negotiate maximised fees if it were to be relegated.

I can't imagine Berge and his agent wanting to play in the Champ and unless the club played hardball and risked having an unhappy player on their hands. However, as others have said, Berge doesn't seem the sort to sulk or throw his toys out. It might just be difficult for Utd to realise top dollar for him unless any interest in him turns into an auction.

So much depends on the player like you say. If he goes under good terms we’ll get more than we paid for him but not the value we’d get if he were a prem player I agree. I still don’t think it’s a forgone conclusion that he does leave there’s still a situation where maybe we loan him out for a year or maybe he even stays if we finish strongly and the mood in the camp is buoyant about a fast return.

it is a possibility albeit a slim one that he might want to stay here what a boost that would be he would be a colosuss in the championship

So Brentford get £33m & £30m for two players who’ve never played above championship level, but we’d struggle to get the going rate for Berge? Only in S2.

how long is berges contract ? if its 3 years and he wants to go put a 25m starting price on his head thats why weve signed these young players if the worst happens we can get our money back

So many silly cunts on here advocating selling young money ball talent for what we paid or less when in 2 years with some decent performances they could be worth 50+mil like Brooks. Not even that look at my missus's club.. They paid 27mil for moise kean, he barely played for them scored 1 goal and went out on loan and already psg are in offering them 5mil more than what they paid.. Imagine if he hadn't done shit lol.

Contacted until June 2024.
right well if we do go down its up to the player if he wants out theres nowt we can do about it but we should be asking 25m at least for him no more give aways by the club having said that it still wouldnt suprise me if he stayed here until at least next january depending on how we are doing

Who knows how much Utd will end up realising for him SB. After all, the guys from Brentford you mention are good examples of how decent fees can be got by Champ clubs for their top prospects.

I suppose the point I was trying to make is that if he does leave over summer, and I'm guessing at least one of the prime assets will need to be sold in order to balance the books if next season will one in the Champ, then it is unlikely for Utd to maximise the price if (i) they are looking / need to sell (ii) they are in the Champ (as opposed to say top 8 in the Prem) (iii) the player wants to leave and (iv) he's still recovering from an injury.

Only a few months ago, a few on here actually believed Utd had a chance of getting Brooks back on loan. A decent half season later and he's now being touted at £50m. Maybe Utd will attempt a similar exit plan for Berge if he is indeed to leave.

"Wanted by most of Europe's elite, before we stole a march".

He was on the radar on clubs for 2 years at Genk before he joined.
No other side thought he was worth the money Genk wanted.

I really don't get the clamour from many to sell Berge, he has the ability to take the piss in the Championship. In an attacking team, likely having more possession and winning more than they lose he'd be a huge asset.

If he wants to force a move that's one thing and we might need to sell, but if not loads of time left on his contract - so stick a £40m price on his head and see what happens.

Simply put, if you wanna go straight back up you dont sell your best players and certainly not cheaply.

Why would a player who has "the ability to take the piss in the Championship" want to play in it though?

He might see it as beneath him.

If he doesn't want to pay Championship football and we can't make decent money on the deal (if we sold), can we not just loan him next season to someone mid-table side here, or, say, a random Bundesliga side, who can pay a big chunk of the wages and have a big enough loan fee to cover any loss in value due to having a year less on his contract?

He played in it quite happily last year didn’t he ? Leave the kid alone , if we do go down he guarantees goals next year so loaning him out is an absolutely ridiculous notion especially as (if you suggest) we still pay some of his wages ! He will come good for us I have no doubts whatsoever!
As ever UTB !

Why would a fan of a massive club like Leicester, want to post on the board of a small time Yorkshire club?

He might see it as beneath him......

(......unless he was a shit-stirring troll with nothing better to do.)

Wtf , hopefully none of the young players go and we come straight back up ... I think that will be the plan and what Chris will be wanting to do !

The guy has been desperate for a Premier League club for a good few years now.
As far back as the summer of 2018 his agent was desperately going around clubs in the country trying to get them to sign him.
He was linked to Spurs/Arsenal/Sevilla in 2018 , and multiple other clubs then and since.

I'm simply pointing out that he's been on 'Big clubs' radars for a while, and maybe there is a reason nobody has ever gone in for him at a price which is peanuts for those sides.
I said at the time he was signed that it was a very impressive signing, but my only worry was the above.
Why has he been looked at extensively by sides, but always ignored?

I have no doubt he would have looked far more impressive in a side with more quality around him, and in a side where there was far less pressure to be the best player in their midfield.

That's why I believe there's a false perception by some about Brewster/Berge 'not looking that good'.
I believe they're the best players in their position in the squad, which shouldn't be the case for 2 youngsters making their way in the game and league.

its what were gonna do chingo the championship is crap were better than norwich and their gonna piss it this season
