Outgoing? Brewster

I'm sad, because I was a big defender of his.

Finally, we started to see flashes of a player... and he walks.

He's seen out his contract and I don't think any player owes a club anything beyond that.
But it'll feel pretty galling if he goes elsewhere and they realise all of the value after we've spent fortunes on his recovery.

FWIW, I think he'll go on to have a very good career but he has to be very careful about where he goes and their plan for him.

It’s always mentioned but what do we reckon, perhaps 18m? If he failed to trigger then would they actually make Berge out record signing?
A £3.5 million outstanding debt to another football club in respect of transfer fees not paid was referred to in the EFL judgement that deducted 2 points from SUFC. Its fair to presume this related to the Brewster add on.

Whoever signs him needs to play him as a CF. Do that and he'll score 10-15 goals

Do you reckon?

I'm still not sure I've seen the CF in him.

He is an excellent footballer. He has great vision and execution with his progressive passes. He has a strike on him, but doesn't get into good enough areas to use it.

Unfortunately I think he's lost a yard of pace.

He just needs a load of games to work out his positional sense, as he doesn't impact games enough. He has ability with a ball at his feet, it's everything else he needs to work on. A strange player.

I said 'save' not 'spend' !
Indeed. And I'm highlighting that it is not saving that much in the grand scheme of things. It's not even two million a year. A Championship club losing that much a month is doing better than average.

What’s a “very good career”? Like you, I defended him a lot. And I think there could be more to come. But I can’t see him doing much more than what he did for us, eg a squad player in a team either doing well in the Champ or getting smashed in the Prem. His technically good at a few things but he’s lost a yard of pace, is pretty static on the ball anyway, and I think he’s still trying to work out what kind of player he is. Destined for a Callum Robinson type career.

Fair question.

I think Brewster has PL level ability with the ball, but he's almost non-league in his game awareness and positional sense.

He rarely seems to be in the right places to impact a match.

To answer directly:
20% chance he becomes a PL regular at a Palace / Fulham / Bournemouth type.
30% chance he's a top six Championship level player.
40% chance he's a midtable Championship player.
5% chance bottom end Championship.
5% League 1.

*The above all relies on him keeping fit.

The Callum Robinson comparison isn't a bad one really, he moved around those levels and has settled as a middling-to-decent Championship contributor.

I think Brewster has a much higher ceiling, but he's achieved less at senior level at the same age.
Per previous post, he needs an awful lot of coaching & guidance, so to achieve his potential he'll need to make some good career decisions.

It could have been 25% of his feet, meaning that we paid £14m plus bonuses for him
Possibly. I reckon it's more likely the deal was £3.5m a year for each of the five years of his contract, so £17.5m total plus (hopefully untriggered) add-ons. That's pretty close to the £18m a lot of people talk about on here.

Nice to see that someone has the same opinion that I do.

Any comment that features the phrase "I asked ChatGPT..." or some variant of that - I immediately am no longer interested.

It feels like "I'm incapable of forming my own opinion on this topic, so I got one from a glorified search engine".
I asked Chat GPT and it said you were right…
