Apologies if there's already a thread or if it should go somewhere else, but..

For a while now I've been thinking that, ignoring his goal tally (which I guess was why we bought him and why the pigs think we play him), Brewster is definitely worth his place considering what else he brings ie quality skill in general.

He wouldn't be the first player to have been bought for one reason but gone on to develop into something else. There was a guy at Liverpool in the 70s but I can't remember who.

Liverpool's super sub. Very tall, with ginger hair.

Steve Fairclough?

Since Christmas he’s been one of our better performers.

When he’s been on the pitch he’s usually had a positive influence on the game whether it be a few key passes or assists he’s been doing well in that role behind the main striker.

O’Hare works frigging hard and is a really good player but he sometimes goes a little too intricate and holds the ball a touch too long where as Brewster isn’t quite as nimble but looks to get the ball out of his feet and head up quicker.

He made a few nice passes yesterday the one out to Seriki and then down the line to BBD.

It’s great to have a couple of decent options in that position now.

I've been impressed with him this season. He's been moulded into an Attacking Midfielder/Winger.

Based on him maintaining fitness, I do think if he had played as Striker all season, he would be our leading scorer.

I’ve been impressed based on the baseline that early season I thought he was crap (league 1 standard at best).
Now he’s won me over and he isn’t crap…..he’s actually a decent player
But still not good enough to be a starter in any team hoping for promotion from the Championship.

Don’t think Brester will ever be a decent striker…..he has zero composure.
When ever he was 50/50 chances he always goes for power and tends to miss the target or he blasts it straight at the keeper.

However do agree his general footballing play is pretty good…..his attitude and workrate is excellent…he’s a good influence around the club.
He’s now showing signs he might become an average standard Championship player.
Think his strength is he’ll make a decent sub due to his versatility…..he can play attacking midfield, winger, support striker or main striker.

We have got a thread, although you make a good point. Brewster's all around play is quite solid.

I mean, Brewpologists have been saying that if he has a consistent spell of games, he'll play well. He's had a pretty consistent run-in for a couple months now, and he's been one of the more solid, consistent players.

Yes, and a bloody awful midfielder too at the time. I remember viewing him as an inept, useless donkey at the time, but the rest is history.

Agree thought Basham was an average league 1 standard midfielder, think he also played as right back and centre back too and he was very average there.

Bashams strength was his versatility and engine/ stamina.
It was a genious idea by Knill to ask Basham to play 3 different positions all inside the same match, he started as centre back but when we attacked he pushed into midfield and when Baldock was caught out of position upfront in the wing, Basham would fill in as right back.

It’s incredible to think that for 1 season Chris Basham was rated as a really good player even at Premier league level
When a few years earlier he was just an alsoran player at league 1 level…..incredible story really.

Even before yesterday, I had been happy with his contributions this season.

Hardworking, versatile and effective in our new system.

He was never going to be prolific, but I've felt for a while that he had one or two really big moments in him before his time ends with us.

And he has just prompted me to change my profile pic for the first time in 4 years.

Been laughable some of the comments previously on here about him, things like he would have to drop to league two. Hope his fitness troubles are behind him and he signs that new contract because every time I watch him play he is exciting and improving.

He's not really had a consistent run though. He has "featured" consistently since December - 17 apps in 20 league games. But of those 20 games, he's only been given a start in 8 of those 20.

In his 29 apps in the league, he's played 1,149 minutes which equates to less than 13 full games.

I think he has started back-to-back games once this season (Norwich at home and Swansea away). That's not really having a consistent spell in my view

I think even when he's played off the bench, he's made an impact. I like Brewster, and a lot of the criticism he gets on here is unfair.

Thought he was very composed in possession and set up a few of our best attacks with crisp passes when it was chaos all around him

The first pass in this clip went unnoticed, but he enabled us to break out with that lovely pass. Also the pass down the right to BBD. He's always looking to break the lines with a splitting pass. That's his strikers instinct. A lot of our players often look sideways or backwards to keep possession going. Brewster tries to cut them open

In his current role i think he will flourish and not being the striker will help his hamstrings as being the striker you need to be rapid from stationary to full speed , playing behind the striker the explosiveness isnt required as much. Id give him an extension to his contract

I'm pretty sure Brewster's a good lad and one that the rest of the squad would be sad to see go if he doesn't get a new deal but players only start if they justify it and for the most part he hasn't, regardless of injuries.

Based on yesterday and the high and confidence it will have given him, surely he'll get a start in the next game and its on him to take his chance. If he doesn't then opinion on him will revert back to what it's been for the last 4 years which has largely been with derision.

It rests on him and him alone as to whether he keeps his place and does enough to earn a new contract. If we go up, we can't have passengers on the field but organise a nice sing-song on the bus.

We're pretty much the only chance he's got at playing Premier League football again any time soon so I hope it marks the start of a new dawn and if it does, it'll be like signing a new player and getting the one we hoped we would a few years back.

The powers that be will either offer him a contract based on whether or not they think. He is worth one or they won't

The lad might not want to. Stay after all he has been through he might want a fresh start
I'm. Made up. For the kid, whatever you think of him. He has been through it and kept his head up and fights for the shirt and that's a quality I personally admire over all others. Let's see where he goes now. He has got the monkey off his back
