Yes. Common assault is an offence that can only be tried in the mags court. For what it's worth, I don't think that's a bad thing. Magistrates tend to be "respectable" people without much sympathy for the sort of people prone to invade football pitches and aggressively confront people at their place of work.

I cam only assume OM and RB have been charged on the basis that they used excessive force as one would think there's an obvious issue of self defence given the aggression from the Forest fans and the attack on Sharp.

So the issue will be whether Oli and Rhian used excessive force in defending themselves from perceived danger from a large crowd of aggressive, threatening people. Given the lack of injuries from the alleged victims, its going to be a rare magistrate that's going to find the force used was excessive.

I‘d agree that most clubs have a moron element, and this whole situation was brought on by a few of the moron element at Forrest. If this was the other way round I‘d expect the vast majority on here to full accept an element of our fans had been morons and that we would not be expecting anything other than the closure of G and H block, a big fine and possibly matches being played behind closed doors. The last thing we’d imagine was any of your players being charged with anything. If you flipped it round, and you honestly think your players should be charged, then this is an argument that isn't going anywhere. If that is the case I would also imagine you’d be more than happy with the book being thrown at Forrest for their failure to provide a safe work environment, failure to control their fans and some court proceeding against said fans. All rhetorical though I’d imagine.

I must say I am surprised by the comments in this thread. Nobody at Forest condones invading the pitch and goading players and certainly not the idiot that attacked Sharp. Hence the contributions to Sharp's charity from NFFC fans which Sharp has acknowledged.

However Brewster and McBurnie have been charged which says that there is plenty of evidence against them. Regardless of being goaded they have attacked a fan. McBurnie is putting the boot in FFS and I've seen comments on here defending them. I suppose that's just the partisan nature of foot football fans.

McBurnie in particular has plenty of previous as well, at the same time he was nicked for this he was nicked for a nightclub assault so he just seems like a complete waste of space to be honest. It's also quite hypocritical to moan about fans on the pitch heading for the away end to take the piss as your lot did exactly the same to us a few years ago in the FA Cup.

I suggest you wait until the trial has taken place.

All grounds have CCTV trained on the fans/stands, anyone who sits in BLUT can see the Bramall Lane monitors in the Security office trained on the crowd so its possible they recorded an angle on CCTV that shows something incirminating. If only the CCTV was by Hawkeye they wouldnt see anything from any angle.

I've not seen any footage that is conclusive re McBurnie. Brewster can be seen dragging the Forest fan to the floor and as Brewster comes over to to do that then I can see that not been favourable, but I think he'll not be too harshly punished given that to my knowledge it's a first incident to my knowledge and also due to the circumstances that there were thousands of Forest fans on the pitch and goading our players who were in the technical area or just outside it.

I do worry re McBurnie solely due to previous stuff on his record, no doubt they'll be several eye witnesses to what happened, those against and for McBurnie. Only time will tell but obviously it leaves a sour taste in the mouth because to my knowledge no Forest fans have been tried for anything, bar the guy who headbutted Sharp, and that does seem odd. There's a difference to going on the pitch to going on the pitch and then sticking your arms up in the air celebrating/goading the opposition players in the technical area right in front of them, why's he not been charged?! If he has, I take it back.

Get some fucking perspective. All the blades fans are giving it large to the away fans just like all supporters do. Personally don’t agree with em being on the pitch, think they’re prats, but it happens. Key difference for me is that not a single Forest player is in shot. None of our fans threatened or assaulted your players. If you look at our last game of the season when we beat Fulham 4-0 to confirm our place in the playoff, we had only a few pillocks on the pitch at the end. These individuals were greeted by boos and calls of ‘Wankers Wankers’ by the reasonable Blades support who wanted to applaud the players. Every team has its arseholes but it’s up to the reasonable fan to express their disgust. Don’t fucking back up shit behaviour just because it’s your team. But my little Forest cock end your Scouser comment is off the scale out of order. If you’ve any sort of intelligence about you have a sit down think about what you’ve seen and heard get rid of the bias for a moment, get the massive chips off your shoulders and reconsider.
