With my anorak on may I say that it is actually sometimes the job of the Assistant Linespersonage to in fact follow the decision of the referee and indicate after, not before. I think.

Usually basic throw in, goal kick or corner decisions close to the assistant referee are his call. The referee will follow.

Definitely a goal thought it at the time from halfway line as thd ball I thought was travelling backwards & highlights confirmed it for me

I remember being at that game on John St and was right behind Cockeril's shot towards the BL goal. Saw it go in, hit the stanchion and bounce out. Our season went downhill from there and we were relegated.

I hadnt realised that I have seen Tofiq Bahramov when he was one of the linesman in the Derby v Real Madrid European Cup match in October 1975 until I was watching footage of the match on youtube a few years ago

A few years ago went with a few pals to watch England v Azerbaijan in a WC qualifier in Baku. They renamed the stadium that night to Bahramov Stadium and we had a bit of a piss-up dinner with the great man himself and special guest Sir Geoff Hurst. The game itself was crap, it was cold and wet but we won through a Michael Owen goal.

Just saw the highlights, it's over the line, try to pause it at the right moment and you see the black rubber bounce up and you can then tell the whole of the ball has crossed the line

No we weren't. We finished 18th.

Yes so they all look to be making the same decision. That said when they are loads closer to the play they need to take responsibility. We have all seen them give freekicks close by, so to not take responsibility for a throw or corner near themselves is ridiculous. Further, they are quick to indicate a ball out and back into play over the goal line so the fack that he did not take responsibility for one that went in the goal is pathetic.

Given that it was a 'goal' I think it should still be considered for our Goal of the season' (there aren't that many other contenders).

The Bladesplayer highlights show it again in really slow motion and it looks way over, you can see the shadow the ball makes as it bounces up. The lights casting that shadow are on the Kop roof, ie behind the ball, so any shadow will seem further forward if anything.

Actually, I've just thought about that again and the lights are probably slightly over the pitch, but even so, they'd have to be close to the half way line to cast a shadow there if the ball wasn't over

I agree it's well over the line....Also you can see that Oldham tw*t was laying on ADAMS to stop him getting up. Deserved a kick in the face not just a shove.

I'm sorry to have to inform you but the game today was a "proper" game, rules, ref, lino's the lot. It was not forum footy where, who ever shouts the loudest, gets the decision.

you mean a ref never gets swayed by a pack of players shouting loudly... or if there is a call for a throw in by those who shout the loudest for it.... ;-)

how the linesman missed that I will never know the ball landed about a yard and a half across the line before bouncing out...
