I hope you're right. I made my assumption on the fact that a talent that good would only be allowed to sign for a Championship side, rather than a Div 1 team. It's the same logic that has prevented us loaning Prem players so far. Promotion will overcome that hurdle. But as I say, I hope you're correct and Adkins manages to get the deal done. It would be a great signing and the lad would excite our supporters no end.
We've had a few players on loan from PL clubs since we've been down here. Coady for a start.
It depends on the stage of development they're at. Sometimes even at 17/18 they'd benefit more from playing competitive football than the joke u-21s league so clubs look to loan them to clubs that will play them regularly and coach them properly.
In some cases it makes more sense to loan to a L1 club who'll play them in most games than to a championship club that may use them as a squad player.

Point taken, and Coady was a good example of someone that ticked the mutual benefit box. I just don't think the odds on us recruiting a Premiership player, especially one that might actually make a positive difference, increases if we remain in Division 1. It may happen of course, but then I believe if that's the case it becomes even more of a shoe-in if we're in the Championship. The truth is, it's a bit academic while we're in this division, and I'd prefer to focus on achieving promotion, which then gives the club a cachet that will attract better quality players.

Loans are just one way through which we can improve our playing staff. Overall the number of half-decent Prem or Championship players that are attracted to Division 1 are, I'd imagine, fewer than those who choose to sign for Championship teams. It's a bit of a moot point really, but being in a higher division has to be in every club's favour where this is concerned, and that includes SUFC.

Wasn't Jon cofie supposed to be the hottest piece of shit since hot shit was invented???
The steam was short lived with that lad.

MUFC take the piss , starting with a previous manager , etc , etc.

Who needs enemies , when you rely on that lot. Any friends to SUFC, in Manchester , lets hope its MCFC.

I'm not sure I understand the point you're making here. You said we couldn't get a loan player who is in anyway rated because they'll go to the championship clubs. I disagree and gave Coady as an example, he was highly rated at the time we signed him. Similarly, the Dingles have loaned some promising kid from Arsenal. Dan someone. Again, highly rated.
I think the fact we'd attract better players if we were in the championship goes without saying. It's imperative we get promoted for a number of reasons, of which attracting loan players is way down the list imo.

Sorry, been to a regular NHS appointment and the drugs take effect.

Coady did well for us, not doubting that. What I attempted to say was that our chances of recruiting decent Prem players is reduced by remaining in this division. I think this can be born out when compared to those who choose to go to Championship clubs, does that make more sense?

Thought it was a bit strangely rambling for you IIYB. Hope you're ok.

Was going to suggest him but thought I'd bump this thread instead.

Just the sort of player we ought to be loaning in.

October article in Manchester press suggests he is keen on game time http://www.manchestereveningnews.co...ll-news/man-city-brandon-barker-keen-10297446 and that Viera has given the green light to a temporary move. He has been on the subs bench a few times and has one appearance as a sub (according to sky sports).

I think there are issues relating to the standard of football in the division (not in our favour), first team experience in front of large crowds (in our favour - but leads to various questions - who drops out, how long is the loan for, is guaranteed first team action a part of the deal, is there a prospect of there being a permanent signing and would this mean someone is on their way eg Done or Adams?), relations with top clubs and reputation of staff for bringing on good quality players (always got the impression this was a big weakness of Clough's so better than it was).

He is at Rotherham, I saw him at their recent game against Ipswich and he seemed to be the opposite of how people described him on here, seemed to be shying away from the ball and didn't really get into the game. although he did score a great goal he didn't look that great throughout and that was really the only thing he did!

Winger, young and highly rated. Heard something about him coming from Man City on loan
Has anyones neighbour heard owt?

Chris Taylor at Blackburn was the intended target but it's fallen at the second hurdle.
Barker was mentioned months ago before the season started so maybe there may be some truth in it!?

The reason we find it difficult to sign young (premiership stars) players is we cannot guarantee first team football due to our large squad
Just about every team in our division supplements there team with these young players as there clubs want them to play regularly ,it's a difficult one for Adkins, our previouse managers have had similar problems

Very true imho.
Gillingham often bring in loan players from the London clubs, young eager players wanting to get games as they have a very small squad and budget compared to us.
Promotion talk is in the air now, I did expect them to have fallen away by now but Justin Edinburgh has inspired them with some youthful loans coming in.

We need to have a good clear out at the lane which seems to have started with some out on loan, perhaps they might then be signed in January.

January could be crucial if we are to progress out of this division.

Maybe we could replace the incoming sticker with an ever heard of ?

Most of the words are there but not necessarily in the right order, didn't know we were after a new 'sticker'
