That's right, we had been quite a while without a stand and without any sign of one being built at all...
I still believe the only reason McDonald took the job as our Chairman was because he owned a construction company.....
Could be wrong here but I believe the John street stand was demolished after the Bradford fire when all wooden stands were banned...

Many areas in the old JSS were devoid of seats, probably to reduce the fire risk. I think one of the reasons that a new stand was built was money - exec boxes etc

The old John Street Stand was still in use until after the home game against Newcastle on 30th April 1994. The JSS was then demolished and Reg Brealey said building the new stand would start on June 6th which is D-Day. Never happened until Mike McDonald took over in December 1995.

I was in the JSS that day - it was full of drunken (but harmless) Geordies :)

I think its fucking brilliant ,a proper football ground with proper atmosphere and proper stands. Keep your 'architectural' goldfish bowls and leave me BDTBL.
I wasn't talking about the feel or the atmosphere it looks ok on the inside not bad looking from the car park to the back of the South Stand but the outside of the Kop,John St and Lane End are shocking and need a complete refurbishment.

Vorpal , apologies . May have been McDonald , ( thought it was Brealey ) . I think the contracts were signed by SUFC and GMI Construction . The guy who actually helped smoothing the waters was Kevin McCabe , and Scarborough Holdings.

UTB
Molems did the John St, Longdens did the South Stand and Henry Boots the Kop
GMI did the Hotel

All the ground is a architectural disaster.
Not sure really. Externally it needs some love, but internally I think it's ok, apart from the jjs /kop corner and the ss / kop corner.

I wonder what the future will hold as really there are only 2 sides available for development.

It's a proper football ground though. Desperately hope we never build a McStadium

Don't start me on "LEG ROOM", one row of seats they'll probably never ever use less would have make all the difference to my poor knees.
I think they must think our midfield is Mr Average ..........:(

Don't get me wrong if we moved from the Lane that would probably be it for me don't reckon I'd watch a live game again.
Wouldn't break the bank smartening the outside starting with the John st and Lane End now would it.

Does any one know if the new pitch will have the lateral slope made level? When you are on the pitch it was quite substantial

I would be absolutely heartbroken if we ever left Bramall Lane. Worse than a thousand relegations
