Can we just check here please? I'm asking a genuine question. When you say you "will have to consider if I'll even watch the game..."Seriously, if McBurnie is on the bench again next game I will have to consider if I'll even watch the game!
And if he's in the starting lineup I'll definitely not be watching and it will convince me that Hecky has lost the plot!
On that pathetic performance yesterday he should be nowhere near the first team.
If he needs fitness, send the useless twat out on loan.... although who would be daft enough to want him????
I never said I don't like him, I just said he's shite!
Not even turn the Tele on.....Can we just check here please? I'm asking a genuine question. When you say you "will have to consider if I'll even watch the game..."
Do you mean you will wait until an hour before the kick off, when the teams are announced, and if McBurnie is named on the bench, you will turn around on your trip to The Lane, or the trip to the away match you are traveling to, for eg we've got Swansea away coming, and go home in the car, or on the train, (because a supporters coach won't turn around for you). Is that what you mean? That you won't watch the game in person?
Or do you mean you'll just turn the tele off?
Plastic fan I think not.And that will stop you watching the game? Thank fuck for that, things are looking up, one more plastic fan disappears up their own rectum![]()
Yeah, watched it back a few times and to me this looks exactly why McBurnie doesn't get to it. Ahmedhodzic checks McBurnie's run and without any proper run-up the jump inevitably looks "pathetic".Ahmedhodzic and McBurnie almost collides and the latter can only make a half hearted jump for the ball. Sometimes this is enough to put an opponent off, but not here.
FFS thats before the ball was even in play, look at the images that opened this post, McBurnie is stood alongside Akpom as the ball comes in, he is fucking marking him. If anyone else looks, they think, ok Ollies got him, next thing no he hasn’t, he’s inexplicably left Akpom unmarked to try and intercept the cross. He’s missed the ball by a country mile and the rest is history.View attachment 141731View attachment 141731Looking at the 4 Boro players circled here, and the 4 blades players standing next to them, it looks like someone was told to mark Akpom (and it wasn’t McBurnie): someone didn’t do their job (and it wasn’t McBurnie).
I am not particularly a McBurnie fan (but I will cheer him to the rafters as he plays for my team), but I am a zone man fan. If as you say, McBurnie is stood alongside Akpom, he'll have drilled that situation hundreds of times at Shirecliffe. The drill will be - each striker has a designated marker, it's not you, your job is to leave the striker to his designated marker and attack the ball if you think you can get it, one job, concentrate on the ball - that's the drill.FFS thats before the ball was even in play, look at the images that opened this post, McBurnie is stood alongside Akpom as the ball comes in, he is fucking marking him. Stop being so precious about McBurnie, he fucked up, get over it. The first goal, Lowe is culpable by failing to track his man, by the time he realises he’s lost him, its too late, five seconds later it’s 1-1. Piss poor, schoolboy defending from Lowe. Are you going to upload an image of him, some ten seconds earlier in an attempt to absolve him of any responsibility too?
I thought teams were either zonal or man markers, are you saying we do both ? that seems a reciepe for mayhem. If McBurnie stays with Akpom, that corner could unfold differently. If McBurnie (whose zone man job is to attack, clear, or disrupt the cross) let's that sail over him & sticks rooted to Akpom (who appears to have lost his designated marker), and if a Boro player gets a clean, powerful header on goal, and scores, it's McBurnie's fault because he's decided to be a marker, rather than a zone man. That's the dynamic.
You’d better explain that to Ahmehodizic, as he apparently didn’t attend the training session, as he clearly asks McBurnie what he’s doing afterwards? Perhaps you could also explain why the “Zone man” would take up a position alongside the oppositions striker thus impeding his (marker) teammate from doing the same? Or why does he not tell Ahmehodizic to pick up Akpom, knowing that his job and his intention is to attack the first ball, thus leaving Akpom unmarked?I am not particularly a McBurnie fan (but I will cheer him to the rafters as he plays for my team), but I am a zone man fan. They drill to make sure a player knows their role. In a sense they drill so that the zone man doesn't have to make a decision other than can I get to the ball.
Take an extreme example. A freeze frame shows Akpom next to Wes. You don't think of Wes as his marker. Because Wes has a non marking job to do. So does the zone man.
McBurnie makes an error of judgement (?can I get a clear strong header on that cross?). But his error is not related to marking. If there's a marking problem, that's someone else (but not Wes)
We use Norwood (if on pitch) as a front screen to cut out underhit corners. And we use a central zone man. Sometimes centre. Sometimes nearer the back post if the scouting has spotted something. (Jebbison did it v Watford) (Berge did it v Millwall) (McBurnie did it v Boro once he came on). Sharp has done it in the past, but lacks a bit of the height needed. He's a reasonable disruptor though.I thought teams were either zonal or man markers, are you saying we do both ? that seems a reciepe for mayhem.
You're kidding right? McBurnie does not take up a position alongside the striker. The striker is allowed to move. Have you seen them corners. Where players run around. The striker does brilliantly he loses his marker and runs into the zone. The striker takes up the position alongside McBurnie. Not the other way around. The striker knows that by losing his marker & disrupting the zone he has increased his chances. He does that taking up a position thing, not McBurnie. You’d better explain that to Ahmehodizic, as he apparently didn’t attend the training session, as he clearly asks McBurnie what he’s doing afterwards? Anyway, its all open to individual interpretation, and I think I’ve made mine quite clear, so I’m happy to agree to disagree![]()
FFS Phil, so what your saying is, Akpom is privy to our players specific roles at set pieces? You're kidding right? McBurnie does not take up a position alongside the striker. Tell me you've seen it, not just the stills...
We're not far apart. It's a corner. There's a lot of players involved. There's not much space. Striker's try to find space. Defenders try to stay with their man. Zone players try to stay in their zone. There's a lot of moving parts. Player A may find himself next to player B. You and I are not saying things dramatically different to each other.FFS Phil, so what your saying is, Akpom is privy to our players specific roles at set pieces?
Knowing McBurnies the spare man and not a marker, he deliberately stands next to him, and abracadabra, fifteen seconds later, sure enough, without even moving, he’s got a free header six yards out and its 2-2.
This is absolute fucking genius, but this has to be an inside job. I bet Wilder has got the away dugout miked up![]()
But, on one point, I'm not sure where you're going. Every team in the division will know that if McBurnie is on the pitch, he'll be the zone man. So, yes they are privy to knowing that specific role. It's not like it's a secret or we ever do anything else (if he's on the pitch).FFS Phil, so what your saying is, Akpom is privy to our players specific roles at set pieces?

RubbishIt's not understandable at all. If I sulked and threw a tantrum just because there's a player I don't like, sitting on the bench I'd find something else to do. I don't call that supporting the team, I call that being a big fucking baby.
Who the fuck are you to start dishing orders out? Or will there be a punch line to your request?
Why are we expecting footballing intelligence from Oliver McBurnie? If McBurnie stays with his man the rest is irrelevant, its the type of defending you'd expect from a school kid playing his first game.
Mate, chill out. People are free to do what they want. And that will stop you watching the game? Thank fuck for that, things are looking up, one more plastic fan disappears up their own rectum![]()

The fact you will watch whoever plays doesn’t make you some massive Blade, and you must surely have better things to do than lob abuse out on the internet.
Spot on, if we had gone down to 10 men instead of bringing McBurnie on we defend that corner fine and probably go on to win the gameFFS thats before the ball was even in play, look at the images that opened this post, McBurnie is stood alongside Akpom as the ball comes in, he is fucking marking him. Also GuthriePlastic fan I think not.
60 years of watching the Blades for me and I still think McBurnie is one of the worse players I've ever seen play for us!
