Boro's 2nd goal

McBurnie is shite but he wasn’t marking Akpom, he’s always the spare man who’s told to attack the ball when defending set pieces.

Did a terrible job of judging the ball in to the box though and ended up in no mans land.

Being shot for missing a ball into the box? Would you also shoot Egan for also missing the first ball, Lowe for not tracking his man for the first goal, Fleck for turning his back on the cross (assuming you didn't shoot him for his role in Watford's goal!)?

Unfortunately your response it typical of some on here - pathetic!

I'd expect him to come on and want to make a meaningful impact, get right at it and bring home 3 points for the lads. He got nowhere near the ball and they equalised. Not the impact anyone wanted..

Can't believe there's actually a debate over whether or not McBurnie is tosswank at football, and it's now running into 60-odd posts 🤣

There’s a rule on here that unless McBurnie has a run of 25 games where he plays 90 minutes each game and the rest of the team plays to his strengths, you’re not allowed to criticise him.

The fact that he’s a crock so will never play 25 games straight for us, he’s not very good so would hopefully never be in the team for 25 games and doesn’t have any apparent ‘strengths’ that the rest of the team can play to seems to completely pass the McBurnfans by.

We had much better options on the bench yesterday and for some reason he seems to jump from 6th choice forward to a bench player with a tap in for the u21’s. Jebbison or Osula would have been better options off the bench but he took their places.

It’s absolutely baffling.

It's not that he is crap it's because when fit they can not wait to get the wanker on the bloody pitch. All that talent on the bench more than enough to take all the points and we end with McBurnie on the bloody pitch. Some say he came on to defend well he made a right bollocks of that . He certainly did not come on to score. one every decade is more than you could wish for from him.
No, he really is crap!

Just a quick correction 👍

On and on and fucking on it goes. You talk about irony? Nobody gets anywhere near the shit he does. Fucking hell, you have posters crying because McBurnie stamped on a pitch invader, even though he didn't, you have posts about his clothes, his watch, his mates, everything you could fucking talk about on a Blades forum about a Blades player.

Bunch of fucking whiny babies, social media Blades rule, ok 🤭🤭🤭
He gets shit because he is shit, simply!
Yesterday's 15 minutes cameo gave plenty of proof to just how shit he is.
Not just the poor defending with the frankly pathetic jump for the ball, but the overall effort which consisted of him literally jogging around accompanied with his usual arm waving!
He really is a sad excuse for a footballer.

As a few other sensible heads have said, the 'blame McBurnie for everything' is just embarrassing.

He had to make a split second decision and it ended up being a wrong one. Surely players on the team we all (supposedly) support should be backed rather than castigated at every opportunity.
Personally I'm not just blaming him for the poor defending for the goal, but for his overall effort.
Just look again at his general play.
Terrible effort, terrible player!

I just don’t understand why we are persevering with him, he’s offered us next to nothing for the past 2 years and he's now getting in the way of us developing our younger players who don't cause as much hassle as him and crucially actually offer more for us going forward.

There is no chance he will be with us next season, so why are we sticking with him now to the detriment of the development of Jebbison and Osula? Players who have a longer term future and are actually assets to the club. We're flogging a dead horse.

3 seasons, 8 goals, 3 arrests. 20 million pounds.

This is the bit I don’t understand, he’s definitely on his way at the end of his contract (hopefully before but the criminal charge won’t help with that). We’ve got actual footballers who are also with us for this season and others who are genuine future prospects , yet McBurnie still manages to jump the queue and get on the pitch instead of these players. Bizarre

This. He probably wants out once his contract runs down as much as some fans want him gone. Let's face it some players and clubs just don't click.

So why the heck are we not letting Jebbison or Osula take that spot on the bench... You know the actual future of the club.

Seriously, if McBurnie is on the bench again next game I will have to consider if I'll even watch the game!
And if he's in the starting lineup I'll definitely not be watching and it will convince me that Hecky has lost the plot!

On that pathetic performance yesterday he should be nowhere near the first team.
If he needs fitness, send the useless twat out on loan.... although who would be daft enough to want him????

Normally, I wouldn't post anything remotely close to "analysis". But, I've come back on this thread and I want to echo what a number of other posters have said, because I thought I was going mad.

McBurnie was NOT designated as a man marker on that corner. If there's a free man near him in any phase of that corner, that is because that man has already lost his designated marker. The/A defensive mistake has already been made, and not by McBurnie.

He clearly takes up the position of middle zone man as that corner is underway. Apart from the fact that is what he did, I'm wondering what posters are thinking. United & Heckingbottom always use a centre zone man, always. And, when McBurnie is on the field, it's always him. Come at me, but I doubt you'll find a single example of McBurnie man marking at a corner in the archives. I actually think he's the best zone man we've got. Although Berge is v useful if needed.

Sure, maybe McBurnie fucks up the zone. You have to know which cross to attack. But, talk of him leaving his man to go for the cross is wrong. If he's left a man, that's somebody else's man.

And, there is a debate as to whether the zone man should be concerned with a) players who drift into the zone or b) the ball. I think it's the ball.

I'm not saying he wasn't at fault, I'm saying he didn't lose the man he was marking, someone else did, because McBurnie wasn't a marker.

Here endeth the analysis. I pay a lot of attention to zone men...

Thank God someone else saw that too. Probably find out in the end that it's Anel who lost Akpom. But let's give Oli McB a kicking... (Get it?)

All fair points, but, his pathetic jump apart, for me it was his overall shit effortless performance which pissed me off!
Yes several other players underperformed yesterday; Lowe first half, Jimmy all game...
But McBurnie was just poor, no very very poor yesterday, probably setting his already low bar even lower and shouldn't be anywhere near the first team.

Every time McBurnie comes on as a sub he always seems to give the other side a soft goal.

You'll consider not watching the match because someone you don't like is on the bench? Fucking hell 🙄

View attachment 141731Looking at the 4 Boro players circled here, and the 4 blades players standing next to them, it looks like someone was told to mark Akpom (and it wasn’t McBurnie): someone didn’t do their job (and it wasn’t McBurnie).
Ahmedhodzic marks Lenihan (26)
Lowe marks Howson (16)
RND marks McNair (17)

Due to the amount of players Egan can't, or choses not to, get close to Akpom.

As they go short Lenihan loses Ahmedhodzic going to the far post. Egan decides to go zonal and takes over marking Lenihan, rather than looking for Akpom.

Ahmedhodzic and McBurnie almost collides and the latter can only make a half hearted jump for the ball. Sometimes this is enough to put an opponent off, but not here.

Lenihan beats Egan to the ball and the unmarked Akpom nods it in.

My opinion is that Lenihan was by far their biggest threat in the box, the natural target for this cross, and he should have been marked by Egan from the start. If Egan was assigned to mark him I think he'd kept track of him better, prevented such a firm header, and even if had lost out, we would have had men on their other threats.

may be Boro

But if it was his job to man mark Akpom then man mark Akpom. Goes back to the Warnock documentary argument with Morgs. NW say's something along the lines of, if I tell you to man mark Player A and the unmarked Player B scores, that's on the manager, not the player.

Just do the job you're asked and you won't go wrong.
Lescott. And that big fucker.

It is a bit drastic but understandable. It feels like you are banging your head against a brick wall when we are supposed to be going for all three points we have probably the best prospect from the prems best club sat on his arse on the bench next to one of the trickiest forwards in the league and we bring on McBurnie . Your heart sinks and your enthusiasum drops like a stone . The chances this guy gets is unreal all that talent on the bench and he gets the nod . I can only think he came on to defend because we are asking to much for our 20mill pound striker to score and guess what he makes a bollocks of that to .

It's not understandable at all. If I sulked and threw a tantrum just because there's a player I don't like, sitting on the bench I'd find something else to do. I don't call that supporting the team, I call that being a big fucking baby.

Oliver you don't have to read this forum you know. You are free to look at something else on the internet.

Are you insinuating that I'm McBurnie because I'm not whining like a little bitch about him? That's really quick witted, original and very funny. You should be a professional comedian.

List all the good things he brings to the team.

Who the fuck are you to start dishing orders out? Or will there be a punch line to your request?
