Just far too convenient at the moment. QPR especially as they had key players out injured.

Hull at least tried to get a squad together to play as they recalled a player out on loan.

Clubs are using it to their advantage. I don't think there's any serious debate about that. Injuries, tiredness.....get the Covid card out.

Another one I was looking forward to.

Boro are on a good run of form - are we sure they want to cancel it?

Just hope there's a quick decision either way, as the amount of drinking I do/ don't do on NYE is directly impacted.

If this carries on, I’d be in favour of the club pushing to suspend the season until the cases calm down. Regardless of what people’s thoughts on COVID as a whole are, this is getting into the territory of impacting the integrity of the league.

Its fucking ridiculous and through no fault of our own its going to impact us further down the line.
Reality is though it’s more than doable, 25 games to fit into 19 weekends so as it stands there’s no chance of the season being postponed, however a bout of snow, cup runs and Covid within our own camp could change that view factually.

If there is another 2 or 3 weeks like the last 2 or 3 where around 30% of the games go ahead then the league is in trouble due to there only being 4 weeks between the seasons. Players will go to the PFA if they have such a short break so not sure extending the season is do able.

Clubs using covid as an excuse to avoid playing the BLADES
The authorities should insist on concrete proof and if it’s not forthcoming they should award the points to us
Getting bloody ridiculous now

Here's a quick reminder of how this works, before the "40 players" talk starts up again.

Boro have 3 keepers in their first team squad. If those 3 players have tested positive, the game is off. It doesn't matter how many others are available.

Assuming thats from when Man U pulled out of the FA Cup?

Its like something off the Viz. The Sun is the worst, but the Mirrors hilarious self importance always cracked me up.

It is from when Man U pulled out. My favourite is Barry Norman

Wilder can go in goal.

How very convenient, just after they have had loads of games and are knackered. But their fans will be gloating on social media how it is great for them and suits them better

Tryimg to look on the positive from this. Firstly Boro are on amazing form and you could argue us not playing them now without a game for so long and them on a really good run could benefit them even with the rest we've had. It's not ideal for us to have so long without a game and then to play one of the form teams in the league. Secondly, as others have said, it gives longer for Brewster and potentially MGW to recover. Still gutted as we all are and if seems very odd as they were fine last night and now they're not.

There's no fucking positives whatsoever! Make the fuckers play!

They have 3 GKs to serve their main team, u18s AND u23s?

What if their keepers are fine? How many players would need to be tested positive? How does anyone know how many are positive and who they are?🤷‍♂️

Did anyone expect anything different after these comments a few days earlier. The EFL have made a mess of this allowing clubs to include injuries and suspensions in the numbers instead of keeping to strict covid cases as the determining factor in calling games off. Its just too good an opportunity for clubs during a busy holiday period to pick and choose the games they want to play.

Its becoming a farce.
Nailed it

No, they have 3 first team goalkeepers.

2 senior professionals who have appeared in the League this season, plus another who has not played in the League but is over 21, so is recognised as 'first team'.

U23 and U18 players are only counted if they have appeared in the League this season.

The rules say the minimum required is 14 including a keeper. 75 but no keeper means game off.

They’ve just recalled another keeper from his loan at Queen of the South Sol Brynn, he could be available

We can speculate about those answers as much as we want, but the only parties who will likely ever see this information are Boro and the EFL.

Boro have used 26 players in the League this season. 3 of these have since left on loan or been sold. There are 2 others without minutes in the League but are over 21.

(Edit - there are 3 other over 21s long-term injured, ie no minutes this season. It seems clear the EFL are factoring in injured players so I don't believe these would be counted)

That gives a recognised first team squad count of 25.

14 are needed to fulfil the fixture, including 1 of those 3 goalkeepers.

If no more than 2 of those keepers are positive, the game should still go ahead unless 9 outfield players also test positive. However convenient it is, the numbers aren't ridiculous.

He doesn't return to Boro until January 2 so not relevant for our game, and he was under 21 when the season started anyway.

He'll only make a difference if he plays in the League.
