Bob Booker played in a team, much like we have now, where they and the fans were together ( at games anyway if not on here). God only knows why his ability should be questioned, especially after he fought to get off the scapegoat list by performing on the pitch. No one has ever said he was Glenn Hoddle. We could identify with him because of what he did, both on and off the field. If you can't see that you weren't there. Probably flying around the world with the great and good, accumulating condescension by the champagne bucket load.

Was going to put some piss taking comment about his Mike Bassett days or something, decided to google him just in case, and was amazed that the actually was a professional footballer for a while. Had no idea.

I know he used to take part in the Soccer Aid games, but didn't realise he played at one time.

Looks like he was more than useful at Dunstable Town as well.

That's bizarre even by your own wacky standards.

If for no other reason than he scored the goal at QPR that kept ensured we'd stay up in 1991, he'd be fondly remembered. That was staying up in the top league, which seemed pretty unlikely in Dec 1990, when we only had four points. Perhaps that was the grim bit?

If memory serves that was the same game where pre match Vinny Jones was singing na na na na eze a Blade and eze a Blade whilst pointing to individuals and grinning like a Cheshire cat, Bob scored from a corner and as we walked out someone recognised one of their Stewards as a dead ringer for Curly Watts and began a wee rendition of same, leaving the Steward giggling at the Blades sharp wit.

Got to love our fans, especially on away days.:cool:
 
Bob Booker is on the Alan Biggs show tomorrow night on Sheffield TV and he's coming up to Sheffield to sign books on November 3 and 4. Details to follow!
 
Was the Ooh-Aah chant common to players at the time or could Booker have been the first? Before my time so not sure myself

It was definitely before the Cantona version, which was about two years later. I seem to recall an Ireland world cup song that had 'ooh aah Paul McGrath' in it, but really can't remember whether that was before or after Sir Bob.

It's been perfect timing for Bob. It's a great time to be a Blade and to be reminded of the last time we had a sustained run in the top flight.
 
Bob booker is everything that Sheffield united is about, passion, people person, and one of us, you could see what it meant to him to be playing for the Blades. Top man
 
I can highly recommend the book, brings back some great memories from a brilliant time in our history, also an interesting read about Bob's pre and post Bramall Lane careers.

I'm hoping to do a book review on it in the next few weeks and will put on this forum, providing Foxy/Linz are happy for me to do so!

Not sure if Franz Carr had it at Forest, vaguely remember some pigs singing it when he was on loan to them in 89/90 season.

Just finished the chapter,Ooh Aah has just stitched Pinhead up,in a pre season friendly.

Surprised to read that he went straight home after the Leicester game,absolute joy to read every word/page

Bought it online a couple of weeks ago and can thoroughly recommend this - read in a few days . The story of his early years before the Blades are great and then post Blades its very inspirational ... Well done Greville and well done to Bob who will always be a true Blades legend

I found that Bob played at Millmoor for Brentford, the Rotherham centre backs were John Flynn, ex Blade, plus Paul Stancliffe, future Blade and Bob's future captain.
Am just reading the part about Bob leading them out at Filbert street that final day.
What were Bryson and Tracey arguing about ,does anyone know?

I’d guess it’s either whether Jock was the zone or Wilf, or Trace had given him a bad tip and he’d lost a ton on Sad Ken in the 3.30 at Uttoxeter.
