Board Caution

The delay in getting a striker signing over the line may well be a frustration for our fans, but, given the economic turmoil caused by Covid, the Board has to be measured in its use of our limited resources. I know many who have cancelled Sky Sports, disillusioned by football in empty stadia, and wonder whether that income stream will come under further pressure. The sad reality of high unemployment will also impact football's finances, particularly now that the prospect of crowds retuning anytime soon has evaporated. And yet players still expect huge wages, transfer fees and agents' costs remain crazily high. There appears to have been no recalibration of football's economy at the top level. We don't want our clubs long term future to be jeopardised by overspending at this challenging time.
Completely agree but if we want to stay at the top table we may have to spend a large portion of Januarys transfer budget now

We've got to admit, this season is one of unusual circumstances, so right now I'm torn between we have to speculate to accumulate or consolidation . .

Mmm, Me head hurting now so I think maybe I should go for a lay down .......... 🥴

Different day, same discussion.

Dem Football Gods saw we had a chance of establishing ourselves in the PL so they brought in Covid - same old story every time for Dem Blades.

I can understand the caution and don't forget we haven't seen the lad kick a ball in the PL, so a bit of balance, maybe..

Is he any better than any other striker at under 21 level, just he has the bonus of playing for Liverpool which adds a bit of spice to it. But 3 things.

1, had we started better we wouldn't be stressing so much over this..

2, Liverpool want to sell him, why?

3, The last potential world beater we signed with a buyback clause, Kean Bryan, his contract could run out before the buyback clause is activated by Man City.... Because he's clearly not good enough, and hasn't had a kick..

All that glitters....

Some of the demands from our fans on here for the board to spend money are ridiculous. Some seem to think that the Prince has a secret room at Bramall Lane filled with gold and that Chris has to go an beg him to spend a couple of coins every time he wants to buy someone.

We've spent significantly more than we ever have before in the last two years. No one considers all the extra money in improved contracts or the amount of money we need to spend on off-field things like the ground and training facilities.

Some people seem to think £20 million is nothing.

We're not a rich club. We're a newish club in this league. The Prince has just bought the club.

People need to chill. We need a striker. It would in many ways make sense to loan if you think Moose is going to contribute when back fit.
The Prince has just bought the club!? I don’t know the true wealth of the prince but I’m pretty sure that this seasons premier money bought the club? So no I don’t think the Prince has bought the club, and also the Proposed stadium redevelopment money will be from next years Premier money and if we get relegated there will be no re-development.

Wilder's record is one of catering for the worst, as an example we took Madine, Hogan and Washington on loan when we did not immediately need any of them* they were back ups for injury and different tactics (which we hadn't needed to get us to the top).
* I will also accept we were running the rule over their viability for the Prem but in the same breathe I appreciate we've looked at players for the short term before (Cole) with no expectations of keeping them on.
Having established this I'm bewildered how we've ended up 3 games into the season with Robinson, Freeman and Zivkovic gone and only Burke in (I only refer to Zivkovic as he was the speedy striker that Burke is).
Has something gone wrong?

I'd be surprised if sky subscriptions go down to be honest.

No one is booking a holiday of a lifetime and many will be swapping cars less often.

Watching TV has to be one winner of this shit show I'd think

What a ray of fucking sunshine you are

Mate, I'm a barrel of laughs me, but when it comes to buying a kid who's never kicked a ball in the PL for a total of 23million I agree with the caution..

I'm a sheffield united fan, when alls said and done the Prince has spent more in the last season than has ever been spent before in my lifetime, but I support taking things slow in these crazy times, we have no guarantees on crowds TV money etc..

However I think the deal goes through on deadline day.... It's the showbiz we need like all the other prem clubs.. Oh and a defender.. Shhhh don't say owt.
