Blasters Knee

Losing a player of his quality is a blow.

But we currently have the following options for 2 CM spots.
Souza
Hamer
Peck
Shackleton
Davies (yeah I know, but IF he can hit some form and stay injury free, we will have a superb player at this level)

I would even add O'Hare into the above group, as a hard working tackler who can break up the play in the middle.

We'll be reyt. Losing Cooper, Souttar or Souza would be a bigger loss at the moment.

I'm gutted for Blaster. He's seems to be a top lad and of course a real potential talent. Having said that.............. over to you Sydie. He has been very patient waiting in the wings in Blaster's shadow - for England as well as the Blades. He's in the same mold - seemingly a top lad and real potential talent.

Although I'm sure he'll be gutted for his pal, deep down he will relish the opportunity to really forge himself in the game. I think we will see Sydie really blossom and shine.

Gutting for the player and club.
Already a vital player in a vital position and could well be the end of any hopes of automatic promotion.
Real shame.

Feel for the lad. It looked bad at the time given there was no contact.

Serious questions need to asked about the medical/management staff who allowed him to carry on. A complete lack of caution considering how it happened and what part of the body it happened to. Also for allowing him to go on the piss later. Stupid on both counts.

If any team fails because one player is missing then the squad was not good enough to succeed anyway. However I think this squad is good enough and whilst decent the recent displays by OA have not been such that he cannot be adequately replaced.

Has it been confirmed yet? Seen lots of people claiming to be "ITK" but nothing from the club yet. You'd think the captain being out for the season would merit some sort of statement?

If it is true, it's devastating for him. Young lad, been playing amazingly, made captain etc. If true here's hoping he can come back stronger next season, hopefully in the Premier league.

Yes Wilder is doing his conference now

That was burrows. Blaster was in a different challenge. He rolled off and then onto the pitch.

Blaster, was stood in the hotel with his pals after and spoke to someone that said blaster said he’d heard a pop. We’ll see what happens but the timing of the international break is ideal
"Heard a pop" - classic sign of knee ligaments
Hope he told the physio this on pitch
If so , he should never have continued
Physio also ought to know that it's unlike Blaster to go down without contact
Crazy to play on
Dunno whether walking about afterwords or going to pub is significant
Waiting to see which ligament and whether rupture or tear

Yeah bad news for Oli on both a professional and personal level. If we do manage to get promoted, he will undoubtedly will have wanted to have been front and centre in that run in. Might not get much more of a chance to feature now.

I feel fairly confident in Peck stepping up, as long as Tom Davies gets fit and we have a bit more of an option there to rotate things. Hamer could always drop back and we put Brooks back in his natural left-sided position.

Totally gutted for him. Could be a career defining injury for him….not all players come back 100% after this type of injury.

Good luck Oli… speedy recovery - look forward to seeing him back next season.

Ruptured ACL , amazing that he could even stand up , never mind continue playing , the adrenaline of a true Blade in the derby !

When the squad is thin and the replacements are the always injured chopsticks fella and an inexperienced young player not convinced.
For a team that relies on keeping possession Blaster is a massive loss.

Gutted for the lad. Top player and captain. Hope he comes back stronger and the good news is, he is young enough to get over this.

ACL Rupture, sadly. He's shared it on Insta

Gutted for him too. He'll be missed for sure, he's a fine player. But hopefully Davies and or Peck will step in. Personally I'd just move Gus back into the middle.

All the best to Oli in his recovery.

So it’s ruptured and he heard a pop at the time.

Crazy for the medical staff to have let him play on if they knew that. Even if they weren’t sure and just knew there was a risk - it should’ve been taken out of Oli’s hands.

Imagine if he’d been hit by another one of those Bannan-style tackles that were flying about, while having no knee tendon? Insane risk to take with the lad’s and the club’s future.

It’s not hindsight either - at half time all the pundits to a man were amazed he’d stayed on, saying that you barely ever see players allowed to carry on after that sort of thing (knee, gone down under no contact, lengthy checks, Oli’s initial reaction, the fact he clearly wasn’t running properly after)

On the bright side its probably guarantees he's here for at least another year, regardless of what division we're in

I don’t think that the squad is thin at all, other than up front.
You may find that the “ chopsticks player” is better than you think.

I also fear that staying on the pitch and trying to play through it only made it worse. He should've been subbed off immediately.

Will be a big miss no doubt about … that lad is in a different class…

Peck has until Jan to prove himself consistently in that role otherwise a first 11 signing is required
..unless TD turns out to be more than useful ?
