  • Absolutely.

  • Yes, to some degree.

  • No, it made no difference to me.

  • No, I'm a curmudgeon and actively dislike local lads representing the team.

Simple question for you all:

Did you enjoy our title winning season more, due to the local connections of Billy Sharp and/or Chris Wilder?

Where's the:

"Bah, humbug, I remember when it were all fields around here" option?

But where did all the money go?

Can I have a "can't make my mind up it's too complicated"?

It’s relative importance, or lack thereof, is overplayed by both camps.

IMHO

Players or managers who are Blades have to try harder to impress the fanbase. For players like Billy he has to be scoring a hat trick every match or the fans start packing his bags for the MLS.

In this modern era where clubs are represented by a random assortment of mercenaries with zero loyalty and minimal connection to the fan base it’s brilliant to have blades as captain and manager.

Long may it continue.
Let’s see how much that counts with Wilder over the next month.

Being local / caring about the team and being a mercenary aren’t mutually exclusive.

Absolutely.
Why not?

Blades-Bladeness is a fine thing indeed. :)

"To a certain degree" for me.
Wouldn't usually bother me one way or the other.
However, I didn't want Wilder to get the job, essentially because I thought the club was fucked beyond repair and I didn't want someone who I liked as a player and admired as a bloke, to be brought to his knees by our ineptitude. The fact he overcame whatever ailed us was a bonus due to his provenance.

It was good for both them and us but the season before when Billy’s goals almost singlehandedly saved us from relegation goes a long way for me and he’s helped us hugely as to where we are today.

Call that Bladey bladeness or whatever you want but I fucking loved it and I’ll happily admit I wasn’t overly happy about us re-signing Billy again as it could’ve done real damage to his confidence and finished him as a player but he’s proved beyond doubt what he is, a class act who should always be appreciated by Blades and football fans everywhere for what he’s done in the game.

Some won’t like this but Adkins deserves credit for this, for getting him to take a hefty pay cut to come and help us out of the quagmire, cheers Nige! :)

Wilder already had huge respect amongst Blades fans before he came, that’s only been enhanced throughout his tenure, not only would this be tarnished by some if he was to leave but the after affects from it all would also cause it to be a catastrophic error of judgement from all concerned and the Bladey bladeness would be no more.

I’m adamant that we wouldn’t have been promoted had Wilder and Sharp not been here so I hope that answers the ultimate question.

The Blades will still live on though no matter what happens, the club will always have the same fans but not the same managers or players so let’s just appreciate a couple of Blades fans being at our club and making it even more enjoyable.

Sorry for rambling on. :)

if it had been 2 cameroonians 1 peruvian 2 hacidic jews, a romanian gypsy a hebridean, a lad from from the isle of man an irish tinker a welsh ex miner and a lancastrian Id have enjoyed us winning the title just as much , I support the club , who plays and where they are from matters not a jot
