BladesPod - Birmingham review with Deadbat

Evening all,

Honoured to have none other than our very own Deadbat joining me on this week's podcast, and pleased (and slightly amazed) to say that we managed to chat for a whole hour about what was, admittedly, a pretty dull game.

Nonetheless! May I present to you our collected thoughts upon said game, plus detailed player ratings, and a look ahead to Preston on Saturday. There's even a small anecdote about the time an ex-manager rang up Deadbat's dad to moan about DB's match reports.

Please forgive some microphone hiss on this - fortunately doesn't obscure Deadbat's voice too much, just sounds a little like there's an angry snake in the room with him (maybe there was - I should've checked that...)

Cheers. Enjoyed it. Hate listening to my voice though! Not quite as much quality analysis/chet as the usual duo on there but did my best as a fill in....

I am not sure where the hissing came from? Maybe I will adjust the sound levels next time a touch

That’s a shame, I normally like your podcasts as they’re pretty objective and not just done based on which players you like or dislike, which was how Deadbats reports always used to read. So I won’t be listening to this one!

The overall sound quality was good again and much better than the ones earlier this season with Jay.

I can only assume that Deadbat would give the angry snake 3/10 for not being angry enough and not winning any headers.

Each to their own SwissBlade but I think you're being harsh there - apart from anything else, as it happened Deadbat and I agreed on pretty much all the player ratings and general thoughts on the match. If you do give it a listen, I hope it will change your stance a little at least

Enjoyed it as well, flowed very naturally as usual and was a good listen, and the sound quality was great. Please keep em coming.

Not sure what I expected Deadbat to sound like but he didn't sound like I expected him to.

Thought it was a great episode. Wasn't that keen to listen really after such a nothing game on Wednesday but top marks to both Beans and Deadbat for somehow making an interesting hour on such a poor game!

Enjoying this but I'm with SwissBlade on this. Deadbat obviously enjoys offering his opinions and his reports offer something to Blades in other parts of the world. Not listened to all this yet to see if his markings (which is what I disagree with) are the same as his report. I'm sure he would be conscious of his markings however. It will be interesting to listen to the rest to see how he justifies the same markings for all the midfield players because how a very very poor Norwood gets anything like a poor Flecks mark is baffling?

Very interesting to hear that NW used to read your match reports most weeks.

Does this confirm that he used to read one of the Blades forums? Or were your reports reproduced elsewhere?

Can you remember which year this would have been and which forum?

Yeah that was interesting. Bladesunited was the main forum when Warnock took over and I recall Deadbat posting on there

Think it was this forum amongst others but Roy could be right; it was probably the old Bladesunited one from around early to mid 2000's. There was also a time when the official site carried them for a few years (called a fans view) but maybe I was a bit controversial and they stopped publishing them!

I remember those. I think that would have also coincided with the club deciding to publish a very selective set of comments from the forum in the matchday programme (the balanced Roy’s View From they were not).

Out of interest, have you kept any of the earlier ones? As your end-of-season reviews always serve as helpful reminders of views at the time, it would be interesting to see something from prior to this forum. Did you do a report for the Battle of Bramall Lane for example?

I couldn’t really see him trawling through a forum looking for match reports to disagree with
