Afternoon all,

Quick-ish pod with Roygbiv seeing as we've got another game coming up tomorrow night - but we give our thoughts on the Arsenal game, our approach to the transfer window so far (inc some Jack Robinson chat, seeing as it sounds like he's signing), then looking ahead to Man City - can't wait for that.

Cheers, as always, for listening!

Cheers chaps!

On the transfer window

I understand not overspending, completely agree we should be sticking to our principles and structure and evolving the squad

If possible we should be kicking on, not for Europa League, but for the top 4 slots, because we have a shot at it.

Both of you seemed to be saying that because we look to be staying in this division, because squad integration takes so long and because players take so long to get up to speed, we shouldn't do it now... But i think thats the reason why we should be looking to bring better players in now, rather than in the summer. It gives new players a chance to get up to speed over the next few months with no pressure and then they hit the ground running at the start of next season.

Its not to say we should overspend or panic, but there is a huge amount of value to bring players in now with a view to next season.

I think you make good points, certainly with integration. My reasoning is that it's a really inflated window and as Wilder has said whatever he doesn't spend in this window will roll over to the next one, I just personally think the more sensible approach is waiting till the Summer. I just think we will get more for our money. None of the top clubs are buying more than the odd player and there is a reason for that I think.

Totally see your points though. As Ben said we are in a weird position so it's completely open to how we approach this window.

You should've seen the first response i was going to post... i was almost shouting at the pod at first... but i listened back to the section again and changed what i wrote.

I get your points, prices are inflated, we know that. But its also because of our position that we might ironically be able to squeeze sides down on prices. Because we're not desperate (i.e fighting relegation or going for promotion), we're looking to evolve our squad and bring in better players.

We could also act in a smart way. We can put bids in for players now, the player will know that we've bid on them (with media leaks) and it creates disruption. Its not the way we work, really but perhaps it applies pressure.

If a player is disrupted by such news, their performances will be affected and for a side like Brentford, it might be better to sell now without causing disruption and disharmony in the squad (using Watkins as an example). Do that and by the summer they may also be out of the side and discounted! We can only hope

Thanks as always Beans and Roygbiv

Can I just ask, has anyone else commented about the podcasts stopping and going back to the start at random times? I listen to half a dozen casts though Google Podcasts and do not have this problem with any of the others. It seems to happen at some point in every cast.

Hm, first I've heard of it. I've had similar myself listening to other podcasts, but usually only if I'm listening through the Sonos app. Thanks for letting me know though, sorry about that!

No worries, it doesn't spoil anything, just means that I have to fiddle with my phone sometimes when I'm driving so if I get a ticket, I'll send it on to you! 😲
