Great pod listened today and brought back a lot of great memories
The Coventry game with the protests in particular and the way they stopped whistling when they had the ball the fucking shitbags

Was watching on Sky, had half a mind to complain to Ofcom over the bloody whistling! Never mind the "industrial language", a fucking apology for that racket would have been nice! And then the fuckers running onto the pitch in the 85th minute and almost getting the match abandoned...

...and just after the restart Billy coolly slotting in the winner.

Just to clear up the promotion at Northampton.

We would have been promoted that day even if we had lost because Oldham beat Fleetwood.

It’s a shame that we didn’t get promotion on night of the Coventry match tbh – the celebrations would have been fantastic, and a rarity to have a promotion mathematically confirmed at home.

But at the same time, the players had a full week after the Northampton scenes to recover for the following game (Bradford?) post-scenes – had we secured promotion vs Coventry, I don’t think we’d have won at Northampton mere days later, as even not recovering from the alcohol consumed, that was a really tough game for us. And without the 100 point target post-Northampton, I don’t think we’d have had the same drive to win all the remaining games after securing the title.

there hasn’t been a promotion at home since 1971. Since then:

1982 - went up not playing after Peterborough lost to Hereford
1984 - went up not playing after Hull didn’t beat Burnley 3-0
1989 - mathematically up on last day when we lost 2-0 at Bristol City: promotion almost certain after previous game at Wolves
1990 - won at Leicester
2006 - went up not playing after Leeds drew
2017 - won at Northampton
2019 - same as 2017 (though it was all over bar the shouting after beating Ipswich)

Cheers for that. I need to get better at pausing recording to get my facts straight on things like that rather than just talking around it! All I could remember was the sensation that Fleck's goal was putting the seal on it rather than being decisive in itself.
