Bladesplayer, worth it?

Is blades player worth the admittedly cheap (if it offers what I hope) price?

Been curious about blades player for a while now, and as I'm not a local Blade, Bolton born and bred, I thought it would come in handy to be able to watch full coverage of every game I can't get to, mainly away. Can some one who is a subscriber let me know, exactly what is available and just what my money would be going towards, the blades player website offers little to zero information on what the service actually includes. Thanks in advance.

- Whole match footage
- Extensive highlight clips
- All interviews (previews, reaction and player interviews) basically everything that goes up on youtube but in full
- Match-day commentary

Things that let it down:

- Lag commentary on match days
- Match footage often includes frustrating camera angles
- Picture quality not great on the longer clips, but still adequate

Overall though I'd say it is worth it based on your location.

Signed up to it last week paying a monthly subscription through PayPal. Agree about the camera angles and random zooming in, quality is watchable on ipad but that's probably it. Still there's the full matches on there (all be it a couple of days after the match) but it's not bad if you want to watch a match and don't feel like travelling to some of the away games, a saving right there. Live match commentary is from radio Sheffield, only heard part of the one yesterday (as was just trying it out while at the game) so not sure if Keith Edwards is on, he wasn't yesterday in the bits I heard but I'm guessing it will be the same commentary as the radio. My advice is sign up for a month, £4 ish and if you don't like it, it's not the most expensive mistake you've ever made, just think you might have bought a season ticket for the last 4 seasons:tumbleweed:

They've got an arrangement with RS for RS to provide commentary even if we're not on the radio and in those cases I think we only get the one commentator (i.e. no Keith). This was the case yesterday when RS had Donny or Millers on FM (can't remember which one) but had Fat Seth with his ice bollox on DAB/AM instead of us :(

I mainly use it for home commentaries for when I'm at Uni because you can't get them on Radio Sheffield. You get pretty extensive highlights also. For the cost it's definitely worth it for me.

Thanks guys I really appreciate the responses... I know this isn't the most exciting thread on the forum haha... I've just signed up for a month so we will see how it goes... Thanks again

Think I might push the boat out!

I tend to sit down and watch the full 90 minutes games a few days after, especially if we win.

I think it is great value for the money. It isn't mindblowing but it is a handy service to have. As said above the live comms are the main bonus when working or abroad however the highlights, manager previews and post match analysis and player videos are added bonuses.

Watching the Blackpool game now... whilst I can live with the (definitely not HD) quality of the picture... it would be nice if a deal was put into place where the people who edit the videos before posting them were allowed to add the RS commentary to the game... Also as a league wide national service, I did expect better quality video ( see NFL Game pass as an example of what this service should really be striving for... a service I willingly pay over £100 for).
Scores and a game timer would be nice too.

Worth less than a fiver a month so far.

Had it for about the last six years because I don't go to away matches now and love it, even watch the games I've been to and it's surprising how it can some times alter your opinions on what you think you've seen...
But how any body can pass comment on how they're playing by just listening to a radio commentary I never know, Kieth Edwards was giving JCR a right battering in the commentary on the Peterborough match, then I watched it ......

One thing about Blades Player, it's not worth having in the close season but it will still automatically renew if you have a subscription. I also use PayPal so you can cancel it instantly wheneever you like.

The picture quality is much better this season, last season it was virtually unwatchable on full screen. In addition, last season's highlights were about 3 minutes, which always included the teams walking on to the pitch, shaking hands and the managers shaking hands after the game. None of those have ever been real highlights for me. This season the highlights are about 11 minutes.

My only gripe is the live commentary time delay, which is a minute, Sky has the goal info quicker sometimes.

I think it's good value and I can use it anywhere in the world, a far cry from the old days, when I had to look our results up in the postal copy of the Green 'Un two weeks later when I got back from a trip :)

I just wish it was a live broadcast, often minutes behind the action.

Very frustrating. Arghhhhhhh

Last season's live section used to allow you to switch games and commentaries - I used this the tail end of last season (our opponents commentary (eg when Keith is on one his long rambling remembrances)/ rival matches in the play-off run-in) - I can't find that option on the current player - its RS on SUFC as the only option. I used to be able to use it for other matches when United weren't playing. Can't seem to do that now. Am I missing something? Picture quality this season is better though it will buffer if you don't have d/load speed and there is no Standard Definition option now.

I use BP in conjunction with the shoutbox ( the BP lag can be considerable) on matchdays plus bbc sport score ( the scores in other matches ( and even United's) are incredibly slow updating).

Team layout is worse this season - you have to scroll down to see both sides instead of last season's side by side version.

It must be possible to record the Radio Sheff commentary then sync it with the full game when it becomes available on BP. Would be hassle to do though.

I've found the lag to be much less when listening via the android app rather than on the website. Still slightly behind shoutbox though.

It's a lot better than it used to be. Has as been said the picture quality in previous years was unwatchable in full screen. I often listen on ipad or computer, and match commentary often drops.
I think Edwards only covers away games.

Blackpool highlights seem to be from their perspective, with their commentator and Sheffield is now in WEST Yorkshire!!!

P.S I'm paying for it monthly whilst I'm incapacitated and so far it's well worthwhile despite the above.

AND have you enjoyed your time in the Shoutbox to supplement it Maiders? You've missed some
real crackers on there during the Clough years :o

PS Ken Jnr on flight home today :)
