Call me mad but I get the feeling we'll pick up the three points tonight. Two steps back, one step forward seems to have been the recipe for our season so far.

Just been looking at the stats though and Burton are a bit shit away from home. They've lost more matches on the road than us this season.

And convention and precedence alone are a reason for Sheffield United to triumph?

Je don't think so.

1-2 to them. Sharp for us again. By 90 minutes he'll limp off and you'll have to wring his shirt out. Everyone else will be knackered by the hour mark.

I think we will get a result tonight . There is more than 3 points at stake with the players and managers reputations on the line , and to prevent the fans going into meltdown. A win will also prevent McCabe's mind having a knee jerk reaction to the management situation of getting rid of Adkins and fuck the consequences.

Interesting night ahead for all .

Was thinking of staying home for the first time but for some reason (hope, desire, madness, masicisum, self-flagaellation etc) we're going.

This isn't a case of players suddenly realising United are in the guano and they'd better start playing great (again). This team is bereft of talent in the first place. All of that has been sold and we have two or three players who are barely holding the team where it is in neutral buoyancy. Truth be known, they'd possibly struggle to make the bench themselves if we were in the Championship, where I think our true level as a club is.

You can't polish turds, guys. The sooner we start realising that our net worth is pretty valueless when it comes to playing the game out there the better.

I would love the team go out there tonight and thump Burton Albion and make me eat my words, mind.

Personally think the slim hope that some still have of us making the play offs will be extinguished this evening.

That'd be me then PB.
It's looking like your '3-game-and-it-will-be-over' prediction on my 'we can still do it' thread was a good call.
My unfounded juvenile optimism bows to your, well, errr normality really :(

Adkins "Port Vale" moment?

All we need is Kozzy to make a guest appearance to put a cross into the Kop, and hey presto - it's Groundhog Day..

I think we will lose 1-0 and my afternoon/early bar tipple will be far superior to the events on the pitch

You never know mate. You might crack on with some bint from Brinsworth (or wherever) get suitably bladdered, forget about the upcoming misery at BDTBL, dance the night away in some salubrious 'nitespot' and end up back at hers for some counterpane hurdling. Then wake up, looking across at the titanic beast snoring beside you and have to bite through your own arm - bone, tendons and sinews - just to escape waking the slumbering monster only to discover in the taxi on the way home your phone has been going all night and United have whupped Burton six-nowt with a hat-trick from McEveley.

Stranger things have happened! :)

TBH I think #2Nigel will go all out attack and if he's true to form #1Nigel will go for a good away point. If that's the case we will win or lose big, expecting at least 5 goals tonight but God knows which side will get em

If it helps, I'd much rather your optimism was right and my cynicism was unfounded

We will win tonight most likely 1-0 Sharp penalty, which will make him the only centre forward with more goals from spot kicks than free play. Sorry to say it does not make much difference if we win, can not win away from home at the moment and we do not look like putting a run together. But will still be cheering the team on.

I thought that they set up like an away team at their place, so I don't know what to expect from them tonight, particularly with neg nige at the helm.

Hopefully he will be more concerned with not losing to us than winning tonight. Which will limit the flow of goals from them.

As for us - Jekyll or Hyde? I'll opt for a positive performance and 3 points. As we like to alternate. But it really could go either way.

In any event, I expect to be frozen to my seat and bored shitless by the 30 minute mark. Happy days.

This doesn't make sense though because I read on here that we were better away than at home because of our shit home fans.

At the match at Burton, they were quite defensive. Their goalscoring record is also poor. We struggle more when teams go out to attack us, so I am going for a 1-0 win.

We might win. We might draw. We might lose. All are about equally likely in most of our games given that we're so bang average and inconsistent.

Yes, it's likely we could get 3 points tonight. This forum will be full of 'Can we make the playoffs?' A bit of 'feel good' will wash around the place.

And William Henry Foulkes will be lording it about how wonderfully we played (for 3 minutes of the 90) saying how fantastic Adkins' post match comments were in our boring 1-0 secured with a bizarre own goal...

Then we'll lose 3-0 at Fleetwood.

And we'll not hear from him until Adkins' next pre match interview where he talks about winners and positivity again.

Read all you like on the site. the proof is in the pudding. to be honest not much in it, but more points at home by 4 points, but we have lost more games at home than away. In Fact closer than I thought, Wow this means peoples posting could be true at times.

Go a few goals down tonight and shit and fan will collide

Think this is a huge game for Adkins

Clough will know our strengths and weaknesses better than any other manager. I can see him trying to snuff out Sharp and Adams, and of course they will know all about Brayford's forward game, JCR's stepovers and limited crossing ability (if he plays) and JMac's propensity to give away fouls and limited pace.

Clough will be desparate to win this. Like his dad he's a bit of a big head with a lot of pride. I expect them to be looking for free kicks around our box, and we will probably see a few penalty claims / dives and gamesmanship. Clough will never live it down if he doesn't get promoted with the table-topping team he inherited from Hasslebaink. I expect a bad tempered game, result tough to call.

Burton win the toss and make us kick towards the kop first half to pile pressure on the Blades players who look nervy but striving. Once again we can't keep a clean sheet and we concede 5 mins before the interval - Blades 0-1 Burton HT

Second half - Then the crystal ball gets foggy and I can't decipher whether its Sharp who takes the penalty after Adams gets away with one of his dives - can't see if he scores. Then it all goes fuzzy. Collins (on as sub) with a late goal from a corner just to get back at Clough - not sure if its a consolation, equaliser or winner

Final score Blades ?-2 Burton

Hopefully Clough looks like this at the end of the game.

I can see them sitting deep and trying to hit us on the break..fancy us to win,but not expecting it to be easy...2-0 Blades.

Would that be the sort of Brinsworth lady who looks like Miss World through high powered beer googles and in a certain light, but in the cold, harsh light of sobriety looks like the female version of Wurzel Gummidge

As it happens I'm getting the tram to a Town at 4. Having a wander round a few real ales pubs, and will be home at 2230 and by 2235 I'll be registering my disgruntlement at proceedings at the Lane not being to my liking......

Typing cheerily about our win......o_O
