Blades turn down Everton bid for D.C.L

Regardless of all the comments above about us ' better taking the cash', if and when we do sell him it will be yet another 'young, best player' to go on the lists always quoted on here and the context of the sale will be forgotten very quickly.

Credit SunJihi BTW, he said it first, again!.

This could be interesting.

Everton increase the bid to 1.5 million, we reject it again knowing Everton are loaded.
They don't come back, no more bids and DCL struggles to break into the 1st team so we loan him out to league 2 clubs at Christmas where he struggles.

Imagine the comments?
Why didn't we sell such an average player when we could.
Imagine what we could do with over £1 million? Sack the board.

And of course he'll suddenly become a wonder kid in some people's eyes.

My stance won't change though that from what I've seen of him I really don't rate him with any potential to make it, even at league one level and for that reason would have taken the cash and spent it on someone like Leon Clark.

That's the risk you take. The best of decisions sometimes go wrong. Imagine if it was your job to make such decisions.

hopefully a sign that we are no longer the soft pushover and are starting to regrow some as a club?

Nice to see the club not being so soft. He ain't worth a million quid though let's face it.

it's a shame in the sense that he ain't ever going to play for Everton. He's better off playing for us and seeing where his career goes, or even going to the Championship where he may play. He's barely played at league 1 level!

Personally I think we should try to sell him, but really push for a good deal - because what's spare change to PL clubs is an amount that can get us promoted if spent intelligently.

We've got to approach this in the right way.

Firstly, despite what some think about DCL (based on not a lot in most cases) he IS a big asset for us. He's young, he's athletic, he'll get more athletic, he's proven he can score goals and as importantly as anything he works hard and has his head screwed on.

The club need to approach negotiations as though they're 100% certain he's going to play for England, and give the impression that we don't want to sell. Like Southampton always do. Use our academy's good reputation to our advantage too.

Money's almost meaningless to PL clubs. If we play it in the right way we could probably get at least £2m and a decent sell on clause. Give Wilder half that fee to spend and I'd be very confident of promotion.

They'll come back with a 2-3m offer. McCabe will have pound signs in his eyes and accept :D

To be honest, they have to accept that sort of money. He didn't pull up any trees although clearly had potential..
If he plays a full season with us this year, will he be worth £3m at the end of it?? I doubt it.

£1m for what is likely to be our 5th choice (behind Sharp, Adams, Done, new target man) striker in league 1.
Unless the reason it is being rejected is something more sinister such as CW expects Adams and/or Done to go....

I find it really really strange to understand some people.

Something is worth what someone else is prepared to pay.

Everton WANT to pay £1m for DCL - that means he IS worth £1m to Everton whether we think it or not - it really is simple to understand.

Do we have professional premier league scouts posting on this forum?

It's an odd one. He's not a player who's likely to have much of an impact this season, however he is a player with something about him who could go on to a lot better things.

We need to go up. He wont help. Take it and invest it.

And it wouldn't go back into the team, if we sell make their eyes water they can afford it.

It's killing you Pommpey seeing Kev coming up with the goods isn't it :)

We haven't kicked a pissing ball yet feller.

Ask me next May with us in an automatic spot, eh? We have had these "OOH! Quality signing! He can do a job for us!" moments before - Coutts and Hammond are prime examples.

I'll give you my firm backing of McCabe when, if by ten games in, we have won seven drawn two and lost one.

some people have our board totally wrong
they will stand behind us
we just as always needed the right manager
they kept picking the wrong guy ,
I feel for Wilson who got shafted by Ched
but the others disappointed

You are so naïve to be taken in by our Board(s) ..........

Wake up and smell the coffee !! o_O

We don't, correct.

But equally, we don't HAVE to accept the first offer put to us ........ we could negotiate.

Admittedly, that's something we're historically crap at ....... but hell, lets give it a go. Nobody accepts our first offer !!

yes, he might be worth more to us as you suggest and if we hang out for more then great, but some are saying he's not worth £x.........the point is very simple - he is worth whatever someone is prepared to pay - we either accept or reject. Everton have tabled £1m because their professional scouts believe he is worth that - Our professional forum members do not think so..........

UTB

£1m being Everton's opening bid suggests they think he's worth more than that.

£1m for what is likely to be our 5th choice (behind Sharp, Adams, Done, new target man) striker in league 1.

I think he's fourth choice for the two wide roles in a 4-2-3-1. We have small players in the forward roles, so I think Wilder is hoping he can bring on DCL to provide us with an aerial target when we're struggling to carve through teams.

Obviously Wilder also wants a target man, but bringing on such a player would probably imply either taking off Sharp or changing to 4-4-2. He'll do that sometimes, but having the option of DCL will enable him to keep the preferred formation, keep Sharp on the pitch, while also giving us a better target for high crosses.
