If I can be arsed, I am going to start doing a Blades trivia question each day. Much more fun than the general questions from our Spurs supporting friend I think.

So today's question... Which United players have won the most caps for each of the 5 British Isles countries (only caps won whilst on United's books count).

If they're a long time ago then I haven't got a chance, but I would guess at:

England - Guessing there was someone long ago with more than Brian Deane's three caps
Republic or Ireland - Alan Kelly?
Wales - Chedwyn?

Alan Kelly is correct, Deane and Ched aren't.

Billy Gillespie - Northern Ireland?
Eddie Colquhoun - Scotland?
Ernest "Nudger" Needham - England?
Gil Reece - Wales?

For England I guess at Nudger Needham - the only Blade to captain the national team. Reckon he must have played a few times.

I remember Gil Reece playing for Wales a few times when I was a nipper.

Alf Ringstead feature anywhere for Ireland?

could it be Jim brown for Scotland

No, he only got one cap.

We have actually only had 4 players who have played for Scotland whilst with United. Colquhoun and Brown are two, so it narrows it down a bit as to who has most caps.

Gary Naysmith?

Come on Silent Blade, sort him out. :)

10 am is too early for me. My work doesnt allow me access to this forum and I log in later in the evening when my children allow me to!

Would have got Needham and Reece but thought Ringstead had more caps than Kelly. Hadnt thought of Naysmith as I was telling a mate of mine today that I have forgotten a lot of scores and facts about the Blades in the last 15 years

Did Monty not get a cap once?

Did Monty not get a cap once?

He played for the under 21's.

Today's question:

Since the introduction of squad numbers in the Football League in 1999, 10 players have worn the United no.9 shirt. Can you name them.

In no particular order - Andy Gray, Marcus Bent, Rob Hulse, Carl Asaba, Ched Evans?

Still thinking of the others.

Hulse
Beattie
Shipperley
Fjortoft
Taylor

I think Beattie was no.6 wasnt he? Fjortoft left in 1997/98 as well I think.

Wasn't Beattie 9 when we sold him? Took it from Hulse didn't he? Realised the date of 1999 in the question after I answered. Also totally forgot about Ched!!!

Hulse, Beattie, Shipperly, Bent, Asaba and Evans are correct. Fjortoft and Taylor both left in 98. Gray wore the no.19 and 8 shirts, but never the 9.

4 to get,

Ade Akinbiyi? Chief Allison? Jack Lester? Danny Webber? Dean Windass?

Going back to yesterday ... Did Ian "Donkey" Bryson not get a couple of Scottish caps?
