How does the Dean Hammond transfer fiasco compare with other blunders?
Off the top of my head other blunders were the 'fax machine wasn't working' fiasco, selling Deane and Fjortoft on the same day and spending a million on a crock who only ever played 45 minutes for us (John Ebbrell).

We didn't sell Deane and Agana on the same day, we sold Deane and Fjortoft on the same day in 1997.

For me the "oh, it appears we actually do contractually have to sign him" nightmare realisation has given me a flashback to 10 years ago – we were all celebrating promotion and the imminent loan ending and return to West Brom of Geoff Horsfield.

As I understand the Hammond situation it's as follows:-

Loan agreement to 30th June 2016.
Option to trigger a new permanent contract wef 1-7-2016. Option taken (by player NOT club !)
Has been transfer listed in May 2016 by a new incoming manager BEFORE his permanent contract actually starts.
Sacked before he has even started.

At least we got 45 mins out of Ebbrell !!

I reckon we have a winner !!

Shambolic.

UTB

Also selling Kyle Walker to Spurs, loaning him back only for Harry Redknapp to order him back ten minutes before the deadline so that we couldn't get a replacement.

Peter Withe - out - Birmingham City (loan)
Roger Hansbury - in - Birmingham City (loan)

20 Oct 1987.

Sheffield United 0 Birmingham City 2

Hansbury played in goal for SUFC.
Hansbury made five appearances for the Blades.

Birmingham City goalscorer(s) - on loan from Sheffield United - Peter Withe.
Withe only played eight games on loan, he only scored two goals in his spell at St. Andrews.

Those days under Billy McEwan were dark, some pitch black.

It isn't much of a defence, but We had no other fit keeper at the time. Hansbury had to play, so Withe could also play...

Plus if I remember rightly hansbury and Withe was not a straight swap. Hansbury came later.

Imagine if we had the opportunity to sign a potential world footballing legend (stick with me on this) ....
But we declined because the manager wanted/NEEDED to see him play on grass.

(Not because we were £240k short in transfer fees)

Imagine that fiasco.

I'm led to believe footballers don't play as well when under the influence of marijuana so this seems odd.

It would be even worse if he'd gone on to win the league with his next two clubs.

Are you talking about Dan Burn?
