Morning Blades. I’m putting this thread together to search for those old United match/player worn shirts in your loft/garage/wardrobe.
I’m helping to put together a book of United’s history through match shirts (similar to recent examples from Arsenal, Spurs, Leeds etc) and we’re opening it up to the wider fanbase for submissions.
Feel free to reply to the thread or if you’d prefer to discuss privately, or don’t want to be bombarded with messages about selling, just drop me a message on here.
Cheers & UTB ⚔️

Do you have a list of shirts you are missing for the book?
We’re fairly well covered from 1990 onwards but always keen to hear about anything after that date, in case it’s better than what we have. Before that date is a little scarcer!

Anything 60s/70s/80s particularly of interest…

More pics of it. We wore it at Arsenal, Liverpool and I saw us in it at Stoke (bit of a shock seeing it for the first time)
First time you saw the shirt was below match
Stoke 75.png

First time I saw it was the Arsenal match as it was during the school Easter holidays. I think we wore it at Boro too on Boxing Day but I have not seen any photo of the match

Have you got a picture of the NHS shirt from 2020 when we were in the PL ? I've got Berge's NHS SUFC shirt up on my wall. Only appeared in one match the Newcastle one. I know at least one other has got the NHS one on this forum.

The Black Lives Matter ones on the reverse? We have a home one in the collection, the away shirt was also worn at Villa in the first game back after lockdown

Yeah I meant mine was only worn at Newcastle away match and its signed by all the players too. Its the red/white home shirt.

cant remember that one
See the photos above. Only saw it at Arsenal on Ester Monday 1975. I remember receiving the match report of the Stoke in October 74 game through the post from my dad (I was at boarding school) and in it he said he was surprised to see us wearing the all blue kit. I dont remember any announcement of our new away kit before that.

The pics look great and i like the kit.

I remember the Derby v Leeds Cup tie in the early / mid 70`s (i think it was the cup) when Derby wore red and Leeds blue (prob got that the wrong way round) and was really surprised at such a change from their first kits .

I really wish teams wore their traditional kits more often these days - remember the old footie annuals that included pics of players in their club kits and that stuck with me and thousands others no doubt .

Wolves wore Gold - Luton wore Orange (not that debacle they wore on Sat)

Still - i guess things move on hey

There was a thing for a bit in the 70s for clubs to wear change kits in the FA Cup. This is the tie you were thinking of, and you did get it the wrong way round 😉

That was due to FA Cup rules when there is a clash of colours. At Fulham in 1967, Fulham wore all red and us all white and it was the same for the replay

Hello all,

Long time reader of posts, decided to join in the 'fun', although not planning on being a regular contributor.

I've been checking the posts regarding old shirts with interest and Stringer, if it's of value, I've a shirt you might be interested in for your book.

Anfield, 2nd April 1994, Liverpool 1, Blades 2. In my opinion possibly one of the biggest upsets in our modern day history, probably on a par with our last trip to Old Trafford. Staring relegation in the face, we recovered from a goal down (Ian Rush) to score twice in front of the Kop and beat a team full of internationals with a team of 'triers'. The contrast in team sheets are ridiculous, but that makes it all the more memorable. Added to the fact that i lived in Liverpool at the time, it remains one of my favourite matches of all time. A perfect day was rounded off at the Royal Court in Liverpool where The Beautiful South played. Paul Heaton walked on and pretended to test the microphone.... 'One two, one two......'
Anyhow, i digress. The scorer of those two goals was Jostein Flo, (in many ways kids, a nineties version of Sander Berge). A Norwegian international who melted the ladies hearts and was seen as a talisman signing that would cement our status as a top flight club. Sadly this wasn't meant to be, but i have his shirt from that memorable fixture. It's a long story, but the shirt was given to a relative of mine by the club at the end of the 93-94 season, it's the navy shirt with green/purple sash and in pretty good nick considering it's not far off 30 years old (good grief).

Let me know if you would like me to send pictures or if you want to take some yourself, i'm back in Sheffield now after my exile!

Great first shoot for the book today - if anyone has any player Blades shirts tucked away they’d be up for contributing, give me a shout :)
