Sheffield United face sweeping cut-backs if they fail to go up.

The Blades lie outside the Championship play-offs this term after two botched attempts to gain promotion following relegation in 2007.

And now Bramall Lane bosses plan to cash in on the likes of top scorer Darius Henderson should Kevin Blackwell’s side flop again.

United’s parachute payments have been spent and the £20million compensation owed by West Ham over the Carlos Tevez affair is spread over a further three years.

Dismiss the Tevez money it is already going to McC.

The loans could have been repaid in shares [and I'm sure McC would have taken that option if we were a Prem club] at the end of July but the option was taken by McC to be repaid instead.

The Tevez money has gone.

The money hasn't gone, it's been holding the wage bill up for the last season and a bit.

If you read the accounts, £18m of the Tevez money was already written into them last year, whether we had received the actual cash or not.

And McC's loan/share option is in the accounts as well. So come on how we repaying McC as he has NOT taken the share option nor put a new contact in place to deal with it.

The point is McCabe has put the money in subsidising the wage bill amongst other things and the WH money will partly be used to cover this. The West Ham money hasn't gone, it's already been spent elsewhere so is being used to pay off that debt.

Aaaaaaah it's just like the good old days. Nothing ever changes. We'll always be skint and rubbish. Its part of our identity :D

UTB

That would be my best guess i.e we loaned the money from McCabe while it arrived to continue to run the club as we were for an additional season.

Big deal. Tell us something we didn't already know! In fact that headline could be used every day for next 2 months and simply change the nickname:

Bluebirds set for sweeping cuts if promotion bid fail

Canaries set for sweeping cuts if promotion bid fail

Leeds set for sweeping cuts if promotion bid fail

Magpies set for sweeping cuts if promotion bid fail

Addicks set for sweeping cuts if promotion bid fail

If you alter a bit more there's more mileage in it....

Pompey set for sweeping cuts if relegated

Trotters set for sweeping cuts if relegated

Owls set for sweeping cuts if relegated

Gills set for sweeping cuts if relegated

Tigers set for sweeping cuts if relegated

Hornets set for sweeping cuts if relegated

Lazy journalism of the highest order. A non-story as the current climate makes that statement applicable to most clubs in the league!

How many more cuts can we make? We've already sold our 4 best players in the space of 12 months. We've got one of the smallest squads in the Championship & can only field a team by bring loans in. And all this when we have the 3rd biggest crowds in the Championship & are meant to have established other income streams.

Bluebirds set for extinction if promotion fails.

Forest set to be felled if promotion fails.

For those clubs its for more serious than cuts.

I would actually be interested in what our wage bill would be now taking into account the natural wastage of Naysmiths contract and Montys at the end of the season.

Most of our players are now on contracts reflecting our new wage bill, so it would be interesting to see how far short of Birchs £6 Million target we would be right now.

Just intercepted this...

Some sanity at last

You can pretty much put what you like in.

Pants set for sweeping skidders if bum not wiped properly.

Knackers set for acute agony if kicked by horse.

Wife set for sound thrashing if house not tidy.

Husband set for swift castration if house not decorated.

It's a piece of piss this journalism lark. I know, I've had a go, it's a toss-off.

I remember the days of 'Gok of the Times!' The West Ham article was a particular highpoint with threats of violence, burnings and even death heaped on our Gok, and that was just from the punters on here! :D :D

The thought of making cuts to what we currently have available is frightening!!! I can only shudder at the thought of what our squad will look like next season.

Some of us are going to have to get our boots ready I think

How many players will still be on contract next season?

We'll still need to bring 15/20 in like this season so the budget won't be cut too much.

It's who brings them in that's the big unknown at the moment.

What happens if the happy hammers go down and then into administration?

Do we get our money?

That would upset the apple cart if we lost the remaining payments.
