Dont think he got any stick or booing from the fans when he was playing for us until just after he missed that penalty (which was in the last minute of his last game for us) as he played quite well for us and scored 3 goals in 11 league matches.

Indeed. Apart from that penalty miss (ok, that is a big "apart"), he played well for us.

His actual last game was on the Tuesday following the Walsall game as we lost 0-2 to Rotherham at the Lane in the County Cup. I think about 1000 turned up for that (not me). I wonder what the atmosphere was like....

I remember a 2 - 5 win at Forest, Gannons right foot volley from the edge of their box rocketing into the net
Zico Lake also scored a wonder goal at Southampton, Steve Wigley scored a brilliant solo goal at home to Blackburn, Jean Calve scored a superb 30 yarder against Preston but they wouldnt get into my team today too

Who would get in your team SB? I'd have thought Mike Lake, although no world-beater apart from a streak of wonder goals, would still walk into todays League One side, or is your dream team challenging at the top end of the Prem?

Like it or not, Gannon was an integral part of the most successful period we've had since the early 70's.

Cantona said of Deschamps that he was a water carrier

Gannon was the same, though not as much water ........................... :)

I think Lake scored a cracker in that Forest game as well? I was there, but memory doesn't always serve me well. Certainly there was at least one from outside the box in addition to John Gannon's. Can you remind me of the scorers? I'm sure somebody got two?

Lake (a shot at the edge of the box) opened the scoring. Roy Keane equalised with a header, then Gannon's volley and a Bryson poke gave us 3-1 lead at half time. Bradshaw got our 4th with a simple volley. Stuart Pearce's penalty made it 2-4 before Deane converted a low cross
