HEIDAR Helguson and Deane Smalley - linked with possible moves to Bramall Lane - do not feature on Kevin Blackwell's transfer wish-list, the Sheffield United manager stated today.
Blackwell, whose side continued their pre-season preparations with an eventful 3-1 over KVK Tienen in Belgium last night, had reportedly been associated with the strikers as he fine-tunes a squad which came within a whisker of securing a play-off place last term.
But Bolton Wanderers forward Helguson and Smalley, a promising youngster from Oldham Athletic, are not among those players being monitored by United coaching staff.
Blackwell told The Star: "I've not heard anything about Helguson and I've not heard anything about the other one (Smalley) either."
However David Cotterill, one name definitely on Blackwell's radar, is expected to try and secure his release from Wigan Athletic - possibly on loan - when United return to England following Saturday's friendly against Dutch second division side Helmond Sport.
"We'll have to see what happens," Blackwell added. "We'll be speaking to Wigan again shortly and it's a case of seeing what transpires."
Despite intimating that Cotterill can leave, Steve Bruce, Blackwell's counterpart at the JJB Stadium, is playing hardball in his bid to recoup most of the £2m fee it cost to sign the Wales winger from Bristol City in August 2006.
But Lee Martin, another former United loanee who like Cotterill has expressed a desire to return to South Yorkshire, could prove a simpler option after Manchester United chief Sir Alex Ferguson hinted he is ready to let some of Old Trafford's most promising prospects leave Old Trafford on a temporary basis to aid their development.
Hull City target Fraizer Campbell, Chris Eagles, Jonny Evans, Sam Hewson and Ben Amos are all considered stars of the future by the Premiership champions but Ferguson concedes that breaking into the first-team could prove a difficult task.
"They're all really good players," Ferguson said. "They've got good potential and some of them will go on loan, some have come back from their loan periods and will now have to push on and show the improvement that's going to get them in."
Danny Webber and Billy Sharp were again on the scoresheet as United followed Monday's win over Ferencvaros with a comfortable victory over Tienen but Sun Jihai's debut lasted just 19 minutes when he was sent-off by referee Joeri Van De Velde for two bookable offences.
United reserves lost 2-0 at Farsley on Tuesday
