Blackburn won the FA cup 6 times in the 1880's.

Big clubs are relative to a time period, clubs winning trophies 30 years ago that are miles off it today aren't big clubs. Fanbase is irrelevant, a big club is determined by dominating football in the current era.

Slightly off on a tangent here. The English Game on Netflix is worth a watch. Features Blackburn in that period quite a bit. It’s a period drama about togger, so your Mrs might like it too. No mention of Sheffield Club and suggests that the game was invented by posh schools but if you can put that to one side…

Disagree on this idea. Clubs like Villa, Sunderland & Newcastle haven’t won anything for ages. Even clubs like Spurs and Leeds haven’t won anything of note in over 30 years, but they’re all still big clubs.

No I can't.

Not all Forest fans are deluded morons who harp on about Clough and the European Cup win all the time. Most are very down to earth and realistic.

Unfortunately one of my best mates is the European Cup type. He's one of the most intelligent people I know expect for when it comes to football. Then he's the most deluded, moronic bellend I know. He does my head in and I often refuse to talk about football with him as his lack of logic does my head in.

I've had many an argument with him where he kept telling me that Forest were one of the top ten biggest clubs in England. I had to remind him that they were relegated in 1999 and only went to the play offs once where we beat them (this was prior to their recent promotion). Since then we'd been promoted to the Premier League twice and been to the play offs on numerous occasions, so based on his logic we're a top 9 club in the country if Forest are top 10, more so as we have a bigger home support too. His answer? "We won the European Cup twice and finished 3rd in the Premier League."

It's painful talking to him.

The majority of Forest fans are nothing like him and detest the Cloughie Club hangers on.

I've got a mate who's a Forest fan, he's sound and down to earth. I didn't enjoy living in Nottingham though when I was a student. Much preferred County fans.

Forest are a weird one.

Most of their history they've been a medium sized club.
For example we've always had better support than them, higher historical average, highest attendance.
Since 1971 they've only averaged more than 25K about 9 times
Where as over the same period we've been really poor but still averaged over 25K 11 times.
We've also spent more seasons in the top flight than Forest, league titles are the same but we've won more FA cups.

So they aren't exactly a big club and no where near as big as Aston Villa.
However Forest have won the European Cup on 2 occasions, so just that fact puts them in that "special club" bracket.
To be fair that Cloughie period was a fantastic historical achievement even by English football standards, so reputationally they are a very big club
but for the bulk of their history they are no more than a good medium sized club.

Love this quote "he's the most deluded, moronic bellend I know" does he end every sentence when talking about football ... You Reds .. i loved Forest as a kid my fave player was John Robertson proper footballer. Loved Clough would love to see him in today's football. Then it started to go South. not so tricky trev jasper carrot faced twat. Flare dropped into the BL lower after they scored in the playoffs. Billy getting butted. Yep can't stand them.

Believe me, he's one of my best mates. We have the same tastes in movies, music, we get on really well and always have a good laugh together. But I can't talk to him about football as he does my head in. He'll tell me who he thinks they'll sign in the summer and he'd have players like Grealish on there. You ask him how could Forest afford it and he'd come up with some nonsense, and then he'd insist that Grealish would take a paycut and play for Forest due to their history as they're a huge club around the world, so it would appeal to him. I then try to mention that Grealish was 4 the last time Forest were in the Premier League, so they've always been a midtable Championship club and League One club for a period during his lifetime, so why would he think of Forest any differently. The reply would be equally as nonsensical and it would be less painful to headbutt a pencil! Love him to bits, does my head in.

Im telling you now if we had won the European cup twice in the late 70s early 80s in an era when it was 1 qualifier from each country I would still be talking about it .
Around the same time we were Champions of Div 4 and we are still going on about that .
So you think Blades fans would erase 2 league titles and 2 European cups from their memory.
I will tell you no ,they wouldn't .
I would be absolutely still singing and shouting about it on the kop 100%
European Cup winners within my lifetime , I was born in 71 .

What a shit football pundit with his poor attempts at childish insults, and what the Fuchs is that false ‘gangster’ accent about?

I much preferred his earlier work in ‘Carry on screaming’
