I was impressed with our number 3 Harry Boyes. Went on a mazy run with Zidane like close control before a Sunderland player had to bring the lad down.

He was very greedy. At least two opportunities to square it during counter attacks but he chose to take players on and the attack broke down.

Think we picked him up from a set up that’s affiliated to Reading. Similar to our community foundation set up that focuses on getting lads qualifications alongside playing competitively for a United side. He’s been starting for the 18’s for a while with Jebbo and Osula gone Hackford on loan and Marsh and One on international duty he got his chance for the 21’s

It’s great that clubs have started doing things like this it helps lads who might not make it transition into life outside the game and formal academy football and gives some lads or late developers a route back into academy football as we’re seeing with Francis and as has happened with others.

Not 100% sure they were affiliated with Reading FC at the time we got him even though he came from the John Madjeski academy they aren't the same thing! Know he played for the non league Reading City/town whatever they call themselves for a bit as the set up he was in was linked to them.

Cheers Berks. We seem to have had a good youth scouting set up in and around the capital in recent years Ndiaye, Lankshear, Peck, Sasnaukas, Francis, Molyneux and I’m sure there’s others I’m forgetting.

Few others came from Bracknell Town I recall. There was a podcast interview with the blades southern scout a few years back taking about what he does but not sure he's Still in the job

I don’t know any of the academy recruitment team but the job they do is unbelievable. To pick up players like N’daiye and Lankshear from down south and, more importantly, to be able to sell the opportunity to them and bring on their development is amazing. The whole academy really is a shining light for the club at the moment. Even just financially, it’s making a lot of money for the club.

Only a few will actually make it but seems there are two or three more coming off the conveyor belt soon. Definitely adds some interest to the season.

I'm still gutted Horatio Hirst who we picked up from Oxford City never made it. Been quite a few academy signings from down south which suggests word in football about the set up has spread!

Jackson Blaize was at Chelsea with Sasnaukas. Here he is after his winner against a MASSIVE club from South (Barnsley).
