Interesting article from a website I wasn't familliar with.
http://www.viewfromthejohnstreet.co...ing-as-blades-prepare-for-championship-return
Blade why don't you like the tone of it ? It's bang on in my opinion. Any success Wilder achieves is in spite of the board not because of them. We were promised championship investment and instead we have received 6m in extra income and spent sod all in championship terms. There's sides like Bristol City and Reading spending millions on players and we are shopping in the bargain basement as usual.Didn't like the tone of it
Yes, here's a couple of reasons why:Did you feel it was unfairly critical?
Like much of comment on football from supporters, it's starts with 'what do I want to happen?' and then one constructs an argument to support why it should happen. The main thrust of the article is 'I want us to invest loads of money so that we're immediately challenging for promotion'. Yes, that would be nice but it's not very likely.
There was a lot about what we should do - spend loads of money, and a rough financial argument as to why - if we go up we'll be rich but very little consideration of how much we'd need to invest and what would happen if we don't go up. Talk of new investors or owners without considering that some owners are good and some are a fucking catastrophe.
This particularly annoyed me 'This isn’t the moment for faint hearts or eternal optimisim.' again, just completely failing to understand where we are right now, just a meaningless slogan. Almost as the comment about JOC, Coutts etc signing new contracts and saying 'but where would we be without them'. True, if half our first team get injured we might be in a bit of bother, like most clubs.
There's some good points in there but it's quite agenda-driven and just what I expected when I was reading the comments at the end of last season about back to back promotions coz Bassett did it. And again, another one saying the extent of Brentford's ambition is to stay in the championship. No it fucking isn't.
With Wilder it should mean that we were challenging for top six but even to guarantee that we'd have to spend stupid money and risk destroying our fantastic team spirit. We have to give the majority of the existing players the chance to prove themselves and you don't do that by filling the squad with players costing £5m each.Pretty much sums up my view!
It's as if some would be happier seeing us 'spunk' £millions as if that guarantees anything.
In Wilder I 100% trust.

If we signed a CM for £5m, we'd have to play him ahead of Coutts or Fleck, that's just how it works.
I'm starting to agree we need something else up front but we'll struggle to attract or afford a top signing in that position. A loan is more likely.
We obviously need another keeper but we knew that. And we need another CH, as cover at least. But I think CW may be waiting to give Bash and JOC a couple of games before deciding whether to go for cover or upgrade.
Assuming Lundstram and Leonard come in, that's pretty much all we need, unless we have another dramatic change in formation like we did last season.
So really, we've got a fortnight to L&L over the line and bring a keeper in, then a couple of weeks of games to assess what else we need and get the deals done.
If we do all that, IMO, we've done sensible and sustainable building.
I'd love it if the Prince and KM decided to commit £150m over three years to get us up but I genuinely don't believe they have it. I'd love it if a new owner came in, put money in to get us up and redeveloped the Lane. But there have been far more bad owners than good, far more Venkys than there have been Sheik Mansours. No one wants to see us playing in a bowl stadium east of Attercliffe and being called Sheffield Lucky Blades.
So, we have to build slowly. And it looks like we've got a manager who can do that and is prepared to do so.

Not too sure that 18/1 will last long. They wouldn`t let me have much more than a tenner each way on it.Bet365 offering United +20 pts at 18/1
